He felt her eyes sting his sweaty back as he stumbled through the main area and out through the front doors to the manager’s office. He tried the door, and it wasn’t locked. He walked in, and the manager looked at him from behind his reading glasses as he put the newspaper down.

“You look . . . flushed,” the manager said as he tried to get the right words and got up. “Are you okay, Mr. Cody?”

“I’m alright, sir; I took the stairs on the way up here,” he lied as he composed himself. He straightened his shirt and undid two buttons at the top.

“Alright,” the manager said indecisively, “I have some DA’s in the club from across the state, and they love your kind of music. I want you primed and ready in less than thirty minutes. You’ll be doing six performances with 15-minute breaks. Make sure you give them all you’ve got. We need their green, so keep it interesting.” The manager dismissed him and set about his desk ready for the night’s show. Cody strolled to the changing room and closed the door behind him. He walked over to the dressing chair to gulp down some whisky, but his stomach churned at the thought of where he had left his bottle. He looked into the mirror and sighed. It was one of those days he felt like going back to his place and lazing about on the couch watching some cheesy TV show. He took his guitar from its case and then walked out of the changing room. As he walked back into the club, his eyes wandered out into the balcony. He almost smiled when he saw that the girl was still there. He looked at her as he walked toward her, taking in her extremely good looks. Her hair had been held back revealing her long neck and smooth shoulders. He could almost feel his co*k throbbing as he made his way toward her.

“Can I have that back, ma’am?” he said as he looked at the scotch bottle on the table. The young woman turned toward him, and she instantly froze. She mumbled something about buying him another drink, but he wasn’t really listening. His eyes were fixated on her, everything about her. She had the most perfect cleavage, and her soft eyes . . . They just melted his heart.

“Maybe after I play this set . . . if you’ll still be here, that is,” he said as he grabbed the bottle and downed a mouthful before putting it back and heading to the stage. He cursed beneath his breath for not using a tumbler, but that would have to wait. At that moment he could feel like he had a new song in his heart, one that he wanted to get out of him. He had enough motivation for tonight, and he just couldn’t wait to go back to the dark beauty and maybe get a chance to know her more.

Chapter 3

The night wore on beautifully, and luck seemed to be in Cody’s favor. The beautiful lady sat throughout the whole performance just staring at him. The suits tried to get his attention but in vain. By the time Cody was done, all manner of drinks flooded her table, but she didn’t touch either. He walked off the stage, and she got up and followed him. He was sweaty, and his fingers ached from strumming the guitar. He had been overworked that night, but he hadn’t stayed long enough to lodge a complaint. He walked out of the bar and headed for the dressing room but paused to retrieve his keys from the tight denim. As soon as he had them in his hands, a soft hand held him back. He turned around to look at the woman from the balcony and smiled. She took the keys from his weak fingers and opened the Yale lock. She had his bottle in hand with her thumb securing its contents. She walked in, and Cody in amazement followed her in and closed the door behind him. He couldn’t think as he stared at her in amazement. Her hips seemed wider, her ponytail was undone, and her long black hair flowed freely down her back. Cody thought he could lose a hand in there. She placed the whisky bottle on the dresser table and checked her lipstick on the mirror. Without looking up at him, she walked to the counter and sat on the edge looking at him.

She looked into his eyes as she kicked off her shoes and then let her feet tiptoe on the carpet.

She was not sure how long she had been asleep or what time it was when she woke up. She opened her eyes and noticed that the cowboy was looking down at her.

“Good morning, sunshine,” he said softly as he looked at her.

“It’s morning already?” she asked surprised.

“No, just really late in the night,” he said smiling. She smiled and chuckled.

“Good morning, Mister . . .” Her words trailed off when she realized that she didn’t even know his name.

“Cody, Cody Brown.”

“Nice to meet you Cody Brown. I’m Lilies,” she whispered.

“Pleasure was all mine.”

He stood up and stretched before he put on his pants. She looked at him and smiled as she put on her clothes.

“This was fun,” she said smiling shyly.

“The pleasure was all mine, trust me.”

“I don’t . . . I don’t normally do this,” she said as she felt her cheeks flushing.

“I don’t either . . . I don’t know what . . .” he started saying before he shook his head. “I’d like to take you out . . . on a proper date or something,” Cody said; there was sincerity in his voice. He was smitten by her body and would sure as hell like to get to know her.

“Sure, why not?” Lilies took his phone from the counter and punched in her number. “That’s me.” She walked out of his dressing room. Cody walked out and grabbed her hand, making her turn around.

“You know what? Why wait? Let’s do it now.”

“Now? It’s late.”

“I know a 24-hour diner,” Cody said smiling.

“Convenient. But . . . sure.” She waited for him to finish dressing up before they went ahead for their first official date.

Within eight months Cody was sure that she was the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. He took her out to the beach one evening for a stroll, and as they walked in silence, Lilies could sense that something was tugging at his mind.
