“Let him in, Lizzie.”

“Are you sure?”

“I’m sure.” Neera locked gazes with Kurt. The spark jumped between them and Neera felt her arousal tuning up. The heat in her belly woke up and started to burn. “We need to talk things out anyway.”

If this was the last time he was ever going to be near her then Neera was going to be selfish and make the most of it.

Elizabeth glanced at Petra, who had come to join them and was glaring at Kurt. She sighed and stepped to the side.

“Go in the bedroom. We’ll wait here.” She frowned at Kurt. “You’ve got five minutes.”

Kurt stepped inside and looked at Neera. Neera avoided his gaze and hurried to her bedroom. She sat on the bed as Kurt entered and closed the door. Then he turned to her, his face pained.

“Neera, I’m so sorry.”

“You’re sorry?” Neera didn’t want to hear sorry. They were long past that stage. “You take me to the hospital and walk out so I don’t hear from you for three weeks. And now you’re sorry?”

Kurt had the decency to look ashamed. He rubbed the back of his neck and looked everywhere but at her.

“I couldn’t bring myself to be in your presence.” He closed his eyes and sighed. “I thought I would repulse you.”

Neera blinked. She hadn’t expected that. She stood up.

“Repulse me? Why would you think that?”

“Because I’m part of a group that is, essentially, a gang. And one of them tried to kill you. Someone you thought of as a friend.” Kurt opened his eyes and Neera was shocked to see tears. “I didn’t think you’d want to be anywhere near me after that.”

All the anger Neera had towards him dissipated. He had left to stop her from being repulsed by his appearance. That was the last thing she felt when she looked at him.

“That was just Taylor, not you. I don’t hold anything against the DuJour MC. And I certainly don’t hold anything against Billy or Neo, especially since Neo was the one who told you about her mother. And both of them have been to see me.”

“Neo has been to see you? I thought you couldn’t stand her.”

“I did feel like that.” Neera smiled as she remembered the last time she and Neo had met. They had eaten ice cream and watched Supernatural all day. It had been fun. “She’s calmed down now, she’s going to school and her grades are going back up. She’s actually a nice person when she’s not being a little brat.”

Kurt chuckled.

“That’s good.”

“I’m in contact with lots of people in your group. The only person I can’t get hold of is you.” Neera approached Kurt, unable to keep away. She took his face in her hands and made her look at him. “And that hurts, Kurt. A lot. I thought we had something going and then you walk away from me.”

Kurt let out a shuddering sigh.

“I thought it was for your own good. Someone in the MC killed five girls I dated and tried to kill you. I thought you’d…”

He broke off and tried to look away but Neera made him look at her.

“You thought I’d walk away and never want to come back?” She demanded. The expression on his face said everything. “How about letting me decide that? I love you, Kurt. I wasn’t going to leave that.”

Kurt stared at her, looking stunned. Then Neera realized what she had just said.

“You love me?”

Neera swallowed and managed a smile.

“Yes.”

Kurt reached out and pulled her into his arms with a growl.

Neera couldn’t think of anywhere she wanted to be right now. Then she remembered that they weren’t alone. She sat up with a gasp.

“Lizzie! Petra! I forgot about them.”

She started to scramble off the bed but Kurt grabbed her and pulled her back down. He grinned.

“I heard them leave as we came in here.”

“You did?”

Kurt chuckled and cupped her jaw.

“I think they figured we need time alone.” He kissed her. “A lot of it.”

Neera wasn’t going to argue with that. But she knew she was going to get a ribbing from her friends when they finally came out of the bedroom.

And she didn’t care.

The end.
