Neera had wondered when her boss would talk to her about this. He had purposefully let her stew for a week worrying about when he would be discussing that incident.

At least her backside was not sore from the constant pinching anymore.

“It was my lunch break, sir. You know I’m not at the desk then.”

“That’s not an excuse.” Rydzewski scowled. “She got in and she walked in on us.”

Neera bit back the retort that he shouldn’t have been with the sl*t Emily in the first place. She had met Mrs Rydzewski and liked her. Neera couldn’t begin to imagine how she was feeling. She hoped the wife hung Rydzewski out to dry when she served divorce papers as she had threatened to.

And, according to Rita, she was still thinking of doing that and had moved out to live with her mother.

“Why are you blaming me for this, sir?” She demanded. “You shouldn’t be having an affair at all, especially not in the office.”

Rydzewski raised an eyebrow, his expression cold.

“Did I ask you to speak?”

Neera closed her mouth. Getting him mad now might not be the wisest idea. Rydzewski was a sleazebag and went through women like people drank water but he was still her employer. She needed to watch her step or she would lose her job.

Rydzewski approached her, hands on his hips. He looked thoughtful for a moment before he considered her with interest. Neera forced herself to stay put as he came close. Too close for comfort, brushing her bre*sts with his arm.

“Now, Neera, something like this I would say you need to clear out your desk immediately. Be out of here within the hour. But, seeing as you’ve worked here for a long time and you’re a dedicated worker, maybe we can come to an arrangement.”

Neera froze. Did he mean what she thought he meant? She gulped.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about, sir.” She stammered.

Neera meant it. She wasn’t going to let this slide. If she was going to be forced to leave her job because of this man she was going to make sure he didn’t do it to anyone else. The women in the company – and there were a lot of them – were vulnerable because of the creep standing before her. She wasn’t about to become one of them.

Rydzewski looked surprised. He had clearly expected Neera to do his bidding simply because he was the boss. Or because he thought he was God’s gift to women. Either way Neera didn’t care. She was out of there. She grabbed at the door handle and pulled it open.

“I’ll make you regret this.” Rydzewski threatened.

Neera gave him a scowl. Then she spoke loudly enough for the people in the main office space to hear.

“I’ll be out in half an hour. Don’t hold back my pay check or you’re going to be struck with a second lawsuit. See if you can find a receptionist who likes to bend over and have their asses squeezed so you leave bruises.”

Then she stormed out, leaving the door open and passed by Mrs Rydzewski, who was stepping out of the elevator. She gave Neera a surprised look but Neera ignored her, entering the elevator and pressing the ground floor button.

Kurt was in the shower when Neera called him. He didn’t hear his cell phone but there were three missed calls and two text messages from her when he finally retrieved it from the lounge. Her missed calls were within minutes of each other and her texts read as if she was distressed.

Worry spiking, Kurt had jumped onto his bike, almost without putting his sneakers on, and sped off to her apartment. He managed to hop inside the lobby behind a woman with a stroller coming out and went up to Neera’s floor. He knocked sharply on her door.

“Neera? Neera, it’s Kurt. Are you there?” He knocked again when he heard nothing. “Neera?”

Then the door opened and Neera appeared. Her hair was in a mess as if she had been running her fingers through it and her face was pale, her eyes puffy. She was dressed in light gray sweats, baggy but still managing to show off her figure. She was barefoot. Kurt was shocked to see her trembling.

“Neera, what’s wrong?”

Neera bit her trembling lip. Stepping across the threshold, Kurt shut the door and drew her into his arms. Neera buried her face into his chest and clutched at his sweater, slipping her arms around him and holding on tight. Her whole body shook in his arms.

“Neera, honey, what’s happened? Are you okay?”

“I had to leave work today.” Neera’s voice was muffled. “Permanently.”

“What?” Kurt put his fingers under Neera’s chin and lifted her head up. He stared at her. “But I thought you were good at that job and it paid well.”

“I am and it did.” Neera’s eyes were beginning to water again. “But I couldn’t stay.”

Kurt had a feeling there was more to this. Neera had mentioned that the man in charge of the company was a womanizer and cheated on his wife often. He also kept squeezing Neera’s backside to the point that she couldn’t sit down properly. That had filled Kurt with anger when Neera told him about it. No man should hurt a woman like that.

But he couldn’t help but feel jealous that someone had felt Neera’s ass and he had kept his hand strictly above the waist for now.
