Chapter 3
Richard was extremely pumped, but he was always like that. He was not the kind of person that would be defeated by something as petty as fatigue. He had a lot of things that helped him get over this fatigue as well, so he didn’t really have to worry about anything like that happening to him.
His day started at six in the morning. He would down an espresso for breakfast and leave immediately for work, showering in under three minutes before leaving of course. People would think that showering in such a short amount of time was a talent that he ought to do without because he certainly would not be able to clean himself properly in such a short amount of time.
However, he was able to do perfectly well for himself in three minutes because he was used to it. He did everything, from soap to shampoo to rinsing, in that short amount of time. He did not shave until lunchtime, so he was able to leave almost twenty minutes after waking because he had his butler set out the clothes that he would be wearing that day and he would be able to dress in dramatically short periods of time as well.
His chauffeur was extremely talented, and got him to his office in a very short period of time as well. He lived quite close to the law firm which helped matters greatly. All in all, it was highly uncommon for Richard to not be in the office any later than six thirty.
He was always the first person in the office, save for the first of his two secretaries which worked in shifts in order to accommodate his impossibly long work hours. Once he was in the office, he would eat something small like a croissant or something similar while going over the details of everything that happened the previous night. He would go through all of his mail and his agenda for the next day as well, and by no later than seven fifteen he would be all caught up and would be able to actually get started on all of the work that he would be doing that day.
It was not an easy thing for someone to be able to get so much work done in such a short period of time, but that was Richard for you. By the time lawyers starting coming in at a little past eight, he would be done with a number of small tasks and would be well into the work that he had to be doing for that day.
He would brief all of the lawyers but would not spend too much time on that because that was mostly Matthew’s job as the head of the law firm, the person that actually managed everything on a day to day basis. Richard would mostly work on his own extremely high profile cases with his team of highly trained lawyers who knew how to work exactly the way Richard wanted them to.
He would take a short break for lunch at around one in the afternoon, and would take no more than fifteen minutes eating a sandwich while he was working. He did not have time to waste on eating when there was so much work to be done.
He would continue working until about twelve hours after he had arrived at the office. He would then allow himself the first luxury of the day. He would take about an hour and a half to enjoy his dinner.
At around eight pm he would return to the office and get some more work done by around eleven PM. This would allow him to prepare for the next day and ensure that there was nothing left that would end up making him late the next day for anything that he needed to do.

He would get home by twelve and would sleep for about six hours before repeating this cycle again. It was an incredibly busy and hectic day, but this was just the way Richard’s life was now. He absolutely loved it. He met his friends sparingly and most often for his relaxed dinners, and that was just the way he wanted his life to be. He felt like this was the way people were supposed to live, they were supposed to put so much effort into their work that they made waves before anyone knew what had happened to them.
He was the reason this firm had the reputation it did. If Matthew was the controlling force of the firm, Richard was the driving force. As soon as the firm had started, he got as many high profile cases as he could and he won every single one of them. This resulted in the firm getting the reputation that it got, and before they knew what was happening they were up to their ears in clients that were desperate for them to represent them in court and help them get off of their charges.
Eventually, this life became a routine for him and he loved that it was this way. He was doing everything that he needed to do in order to stay happy. The only thing that was possibly missing was a woman in his life, but that was something that everyone else thought. Richard did not think that this was the case. He was very practical where love was concerned. He had the opinion that everything that he was doing was enough, and that if he found a woman that was worth marrying or getting together with he would simply marry her and that would be the end of that. However, he did not think that he needed to go out and look for women. He managed to keep his needs well satisfied, he was a very good looking man after all. He had a chiseled jaw, a mild stubble, salt and pepper hair. He looked more like a movie star than a lawyer and this was part of the reason that he was able to get such a good reputation as a lawyer. After all, people are more likely to trust you if you are good looking, especially if you are as good looking as Richard was.
He had a feeling that today was going to be different, though. As he got out of his office and went down to the archives to look for a particularly rare legal document that he had luckily thought of, an old law that nobody remembered, a law that would allow him to win the case that he was taking for a client that would bring a great deal of money into the firm.
He had a feeling that today would be different because he was meeting somebody that he had not met in a great deal of time. This was the daughter of his partner, Angie. Angie had left for Kenya a decade ago after her mother had died. She had been unable to take the stress of life without her mother in her life and he couldn’t blame her. Her mother had been a truly wonderful woman, and she had been very loving towards her daughter. Matthew had been very depressed too because of the death of his wife, and he probably would have ended up becoming a toxic influence on his daughter if she had not left for Kenya.
