Chapter 9
Angie and Richard were finally able to spend time together. They had had to spend a couple of weeks apart because of the fact that her father had wanted to spend so much time with her. Honestly, she had wanted the exact same thing. She had wanted to spend time with her father just as much as he had wanted to spend time with her. They had enjoyed a lovely couple of weeks together, and now her father was starting to reach out to the friends that he had lost contact with over the past few years. He had not been the kind of person that would lose friends easily, but the past few years had taken their toll. He had become so engrossed in his job, so utterly fixated on the idea of being the best lawyer that he could be that he had lost contact with a great number of his friends.
And so, as Matthew started to get back into contact with his friends, Angie was able to get out of the house. Her father was glad that she was going and enjoying herself with her friends, although he was quite curious about where she was going and who she was meeting because she hadn’t really been able to find the time to make any friends or contact any of her old friends. Still, he was not the kind of man that pried into his daughter’s personal life. He was not the kind of man that tried to control what his daughter did. That made Angie hopeful. It made her hopeful because it meant that he might be okay with whatever it was that she and Richard had. He might be okay with the thought of his best friend and the new manager of his firm being in a sexual relationship with his daughter.
Angie got to Richard’s place and kissed him softly. It was the kiss of someone that wanted to savor something that they had once had in abundance but as of late had been unable to get as much of it as they wanted. It was the kiss of a person that was hungry for a lot more than they got. It was the kiss of a person that had been deprived of something that they truly wanted, and were now able to get it again but were afraid that they might lose it any second.
She kissed him hard and he held her tight as he kissed her back. It was a lovely feeling to be held and kissed at the same time. She had never really experienced it before, or at the very least not in the way that Richard did it to her. Moments like this made her glad that she was with him. It made her glad that she was able to enjoy her life with Richard like this because it meant that she would be able to enjoy the perks, perks like him holding her while he kissed her.
She went inside and sat on his sofa. Richard shut the door and sat down beside her. Angie rested her head on his muscular chest and sighed. “I missed you so much.”
“I missed you too,” said Richard. “I didn’t think I could miss anyone this much to be honest. What on Earth have you done to me?”
“I’ve cast my spell on you,” said Angie, getting on top of him and straddling him, wiggling her fingers once she was firmly atop him. “I am a witch and I have made you drink my potion of love!”
Richard laughed and kissed her tight and said, “That’s what I missed. That right there. God, I love you.”
Angie was taken aback. They hadn’t really said that to each other yet. They hadn’t gotten so intimate that they would end up saying the most intimate thing that you could say to a person. Or rather, they had gotten this intimate and more but they had been afraid to say it. They had been afraid because of what it would imply, what it would mean, how it could possibly change their relationship and the way that they felt about each other.
She thought about what those words meant. He loved her. What kind of love was it? Was it true love? Was it unconditional love? Was it friendly love?
She looked at him for a long while and he grimaced. “I’m sorry,” he said. “It just… came out. I wasn’t planning on saying on it. It’s just that I’m seeing you after a really long time and just… I realized that I missed you so much because I felt this way. Should I not have said it?”

“No there’s nothing wrong with saying it,” she said. She then realized what she had just said. Who on Earth would like hearing that? Who on earth would want “there’s nothing wrong with that” to be the response they get for telling someone that they love them?
“It’s okay if you don’t feel the same way,” said Richard. “You don’t have to. You don’t owe me anything at all. I just… I guess I just felt it a lot and I said it, you know? But that doesn’t mean that you have to say it back, no not at all. I’m not the kind of person that would demand a response from you unless you actually felt that way, you know? And I want you to know that you don’t have to feel that way. Love is something that you feel, it can’t be forced you know? You can’t just feel it just because I have said it to you. I wouldn’t want you to say it back just for me. I wouldn’t want you to say it back just because my feelings might be hurt if you don’t say it back, not that they’ve been hurt now I mean I just like… am I ranting? I’m so-“
Angie kissed him hard on the lips. He got so nervous around her, it was remarkable. Richard Breech, one of the greatest lawyers that this city had ever seen, the man that, when he entered the room, people tended to either stand up or back away. He was the lawyer that had made the corporate lawyers that were representing a company that was dumping oil into the ocean because of a faulty drill lose their composure. He was the man that, even if he didn’t win in the end, he made sure to lose in style. And yet, here this man was. Nervous and stumbling over his own words because he had just said three simple words to Angie. He was nervous because he had been extremely emotional and vulnerable and he was not used to being that way at all. He was not used to being the one that was vulnerable. He was used to being the one that made other people vulnerable.
Angie felt like she should tell him. There was no reason not to anymore, especially since he had said it to her just now. There was no reason to hide how she was feeling anymore.
“I love you,” said Angie. “I love you too.”
