Chapter 12

It had been six months since Lila had started working at the Dennison Ranch and Resort and she was loving each and every minute of it. True to his word, after three month Kurt had turned Lila into a full time teacher who had three assistants working under her.

It had been a great journey ever since she had decided that she would quit her job in the city. She had initially used up all of her sick days seeing if this job would be worthwhile because she had wanted to be as practical about this decision as possible. She worked for a month and then realized that this job was everything that she could ever want so she decided that she would stay here.

She did not earn a great deal of money initially but it was not a great deal less than what she had earned while she had been working at the bank. When she became a full time teacher, she started earning almost twice as much as she had been earning in the city, and this came with the added benefit of a much cheaper lifestyle. Since she was living in a smaller town now, everything was a lot easier to afford. Even on the salary of an assistant teacher, Lila had been able to afford a decent apartment for herself. She had really like the place, but when she had started earning good money she had decided that she would finally start doing something for herself and got herself a much nicer place in the best part of town.

Life was good in these days. She was able to get the respect of pretty much everybody that rode under her care because she seemed to have a knack for teaching. She knew that with everything she was doing, she was going to be able to afford her own place in no time, and this time she would be buying a house for herself.

She was also involved in the day to day decision making of the hotel. While Kurt was the one that was responsible for the majority of the decisions, Lila had a fair bit of power as well and soon everyone started to come to know her as the second in command. A month ago, Kurt had decided to make it official and made Lila the manager of the hotel. This brought her even more money than she had been getting before, and she was really starting to enjoy her life now. She felt like there was nothing in the world that could go wrong, and she was right. She was living the good life, the sort of life that she had been trying to get for herself for so long. Now that she was financially comfortable, she could afford things that she had never been able to afford before. However, this was not the main reason for her happiness. The main reason for Lila’s happiness was that she was starting to feel like she was doing something worthwhile. She was finally living in the kind of place that she wanted to live in, she was doing something that she wanted to do, and she was with somebody that she actually wanted to be with.

Her relationship with Kurt was getting better every day. As soon as Lila decided that she would not be returning to the city, she and Kurt had made it official. They were going steady now, and they had been doing so for quite some time. When they started to be serious with one another, they had realized that they had to grow into each other a little. They had not been afraid to do that.

What Lila loved the most about Kurt was that he was never possessive of her. He wanted her around and he wanted to spend time with her, but he knew that she was her own woman. Hence, it was not uncommon that Lila would be spending Saturday night doing her own thing while Kurt hung out with his own friends. This was, in a lot of ways, the secret to their successful relationship. They gave each other the space to be their own people. Lila loved it and she did not want to change a single thing about this relationship.

Louise had paid off all of her student loans and was back in school now. She was taking a year long course that would allow her to become a paralegal in training. It was great opportunity for her and Lila was really happy that she was finding happiness. She had gotten herself a nicer apartment and was able to support herself for an entire year until her course was finished and she could get a job of her own. She was settled and this was a lot more than she had been previously. After all of this struggle, Louise was finally able to make sure that she would live the life that she deserved.

Donovan and the other investors learned their place and stopped trying to butt into the affairs of the hotel. They simply took their checks every three months, not wanting to raise the ire of Kurt Dennison anymore. Kurt started to expand the hotels himself, wanting to slowly phase out these investors that were starting to become such a nuisance. Lila was extremely happy for him. She knew that this was what he had always wanted. She knew that thanks to all of this new found freedom, Kurt was going to be able to enjoy himself a great deal more.

The business began to thrive, and six months after Lila had come to the hotel to stay for a week, it had transformed completely. It was no longer the odd mixture of ranch style gimmicks and modern amenities. No, the hotel was now the kind of place that catered specifically to people that had a thing for cowboys, people just like Lila.

This ended up being a huge marketing tool. People from all over the country were suddenly interested in what Kurt had to offer. He managed to turn the cowboy image into something that everybody wanted a piece of, and this was something that he remained extremely proud of.

The horse lessons became so popular that they ended up getting a life of their own outside of the hotel. Lila got offers from all over the country to work as a horse riding teacher. A lot of these offers paid good money as well. However, Lila was faithful to the hotel. This hotel had changed her life. She thought about what her colleague had said that day. She thought about the fact that her colleague had told her not to lose hope. He had told her that her life might just end up changing any second, and that she would not even realize it when it happened. He had been right. Her life had changed all of sudden and now all that was left was to enjoy this new life of hers.

Lila was showering at home and getting ready for her lunch with Kurt. It was going to be a special lunch because they had been together for six whole months by now. She was happier than she had ever been before, and now that everything was working out she really wanted to get serious with Kurt. She was hoping that today at lunch they would be able to talk to each other seriously about what they wanted from this relationship. Little did she know, Kurt had already thought long and hard about this and had made his decision. He was on his way to her place to tell her about this decision.
