“I am going to call you Jade,” said Lila. “Do you like that name?”
Jade tossed her head back a little bit in what was clearly a gesture of acceptance. It was a young horse. It was entirely possible that it had not been named yet, and Lila was glad that she was the first person to have the honor of naming such a gorgeous animal. She decided in that moment that she would not take this for granted. To be in front of such a glorious beast was an honor indeed, and it was an honor that she was not going to take lightly at all.
She put her heel in the stirrup, whispered, “Up I go, Jade,” and then swung her leg over the horse and sat on top of it. It had not been something that she did intentionally. Her body had just moved of its own accord as soon as she had put her heel into the stirrup. It was as though her body had not been in her control any more, it was as if some kind of intrinsic ability stored deep within the deepest part of her soul had come alive and told her body what to do. She was on the horse. She was the only person in the group of fifteen people that had managed to climb their horse without ending up on their ass first.
She looked around as if she had only just realized that there were people in front of her. Everyone started to applaud. She smiled. She looked at Kurt and saw that he was looking at her as if she was his daughter. She did not mind. This was a kind of love that was universal, and it was honestly quite sexy for her to be looked upon with such a proud expression from someone that she was so immensely attracted to.
“Excellent!” said Kurt. “You really are a natural, Lila. Now everyone, notice what she did. She took her time, and that was the most important thing. When I said you can take your time, I mean it. We can be here all day if we have to be, you just need to get on your horse. Talk to it, give it a name if you want. And then, when you put your heel into the stirrup, swing your foot over and around it and then rest easy on the saddle. There is nothing to it once you have the confidence to do it properly!”
Everyone took their time this time around. Kurt cantered up to Lila on his horse and said, “That was so impressive. Are you sure you have never ridden a horse before?”
“I am positive,” said Lila with a laugh. “I do not know, it was like my body just knew what to do. It was an amazing feeling, really, to be so connected with an animal like this. I feel like I have been doing this all my life even though this really is the first time that I have ever done something like this. Is that so strange?”

“Not really,” said Kurt. “There are some people that are naturals at this. I have a feeling that you are one of them. This is such a great turnout. Everyone here seems to be having such a good time. I am so glad that you made me do this. I feel like you are the best thing that has ever happened to me. I feel so alive right now! Nothing else in the world matters, all I care about is being here in this moment and teaching all of these wonderful people to ride horses.”
Lila almost felt tears welling up in her eyes. Kurt had no idea how much what he had just said had meant to Lila. She was so touched that she might cry, but she looked away and blinked the tears away. She was touched, and she was glad that she was here as well.
They ended up riding for half an hour. No one was really able to manage more than a light trot from their horses except for Lila who managed to get her horse to canter at a fairly fast pace. Kurt was impressed once again and told her that she might be the one teaching the next class.
When it was time for the next round, even more people had shown up. Now there were twenty people waiting to get a ride. The fifteen people that had been here first were all given the same half an hour lesson in which Kurt let Lila demonstrate how to properly mount a horse, and by the time the second lesson was done there were about a dozen people waiting. They did a third lesson, after which they told the three or four people that had come to watch that there would be more lessons the next day.
It was a perfect day, and Lila was happier than she had been in a long time. She was especially happy because she knew that the day was not over yet. She was going to have dinner with Kurt now, and it was going to be a wonderful evening for sure. This was going to be her first actual intimate meeting with the man that she was so incredibly attracted to. It was a date, there was no doubt about it, and she looked forward to it with no small amount of excitement.
