Sam sat on the bench again while Bella went to the cafeteria to get some water and a chocolate bar to reduce her roommate’s stress. She returned in a couple of minutes and they both ate the sweet. The atmosphere finally subsided leaving them more relaxed. Luckily, it all ended well for the girl and her sister.
“I’m sorry, Bella. I called you so fast like that… Maybe you had some work to do…” Sam spoke after a while, drinking of the water bottle in her lap.
“No problem. I was just downtown with… With you know who.” Bella smiled faintly and Sam did too.
“I’m sorry I ruined your plans again, but you’re the only one I could call in this city.” Sam shrugged.
“Stop apologizing, please. I’m alone here, too. I just arrived and you were the first one to accept me in the apartment. We’re here to help each other.” Bella tapped Sam’s back encouragingly.
“Do you know what I realized today, Bella?” Sam began, but the nurse reappeared to call her to her sister’s room.
Right before she entered though, she turned to Bella and finished. “Life is too short for us to spend it in unimportant moments.”
When the door of the room closed and she remained alone in the corridor, Bella span Sam’s words in her mind. Life was indeed too short to spend it worrying or over thinking and losing possibilities. She shouldn’t allow herself that luxury. Not when she had the chance of her life blinking before her. Not when she found her true love and didn’t want to spend even a day more separated from him.
She fished her phone out of her pocket and dialed Thomas’ number. A ring, two, and he picked up.
“Dear? Is everything alright?” he asked.
“Where are you, Tom? I want to talk with you. It’s very urgent,” she said, feeling her heart jumping in her chest.
“In the company. Why?”
“I’m coming there now.”
“No, wait! I’ll come wherever you are,” he offered.
“There’s no need. I’m on my way already,” she said, running down the hospital’s stairs and exiting the building. She waved to a cabbie standing close by and climbed the car. She told the company’s address and impatiently observed the scenery changing on the windows. From the rather short buildings in the poor neighborhood she was in to the massive glass structures touching the sky.
In no time, she was going through the center of the city and in the parking lot. Thanking the driver, she left him a small tip and hurried up the stairs of the company. It was too much running and rushing for the day, but she was just so eager to tell Thomas the news that she didn’t want to stop even to take her breath.
The elevator left her at the seventy-ninth floor where she remembered his office to be. The secretary greeted her behind the counter with a smile.
“What can I do for you, miss?”
“I want to see Mr. Graves. We have a meeting,” Bella panted.
“Oh, yeah. He expects you,” the secretary told her.

“Thanks!” Bella uttered before going to the leather door and turning the knob.
The spacious inside of Thomas’ office greeted her as she took a deep breath and coughed. Thomas was sitting behind his desk, reading something and pondering it. At the sight of her though, he lifted his look and smiled kindly with his most adorable smile.
“You came fast. I counted every minute.” He approached her planting a kiss on her cheek and fondling her back gently. His cologne reminded her of last night and she embraced him tight.
The moment they slowly separated from each other she shouted.
“I do! I want to marry you!”
