Negotiations are at stand still in Mountain View, as the world’s largest search engine company has backed away from an offer to purchase TonPay, a source close to the proceedings says. In an interview with Sasha Pierson, the source, who chose to remain anonymous, disclosed that the Mountain View giant has new information that caused them to balk at the original asking price. While the exact amount discussed is still unknown to date, TonPay’s position as the only viable competitor to PayPal makes them a highly valuable commodity, possibly in the several billion dollar range.

As of this release, neither the board at Mountain View, or any representative of TonPay has commented on these developments.

Jade tapped the screen off on the tablet and laid it down, staring at the blank screen a moment longer. The image of Lucas was burned into her mind with or without the 4K glare. Those eyes were dark in the shaded picture, but she knew the glow in them, the way they crinkled at the edges when he smiled…only now there was no smile to be seen. The stark, blank look on his face said miles of empty were ahead. The look haunted her.

Like the smell of him would when she got home. Like the jacket he’d left and that last piece of dessert neither of them could finish, and the feeling of him closer than her own skin.

Standing at the high counter close to the office lab door, Jade tried one last time to force the rising tide down and out where it belonged. Two years had gone by and she could still remember Aaron’s—she stopped. She couldn’t. She couldn’t remember Aaron’s anything, except the way his luggage had sounded when it rolled away.

What color were his eyes? Emerald green- no, damnit, no! His hair? Dark black with that superhero curl. Will you leave me alone!? It didn’t matter and the thought process came on like a tidal wave. Lucas at the wedding. Lucas in the sun. Lucas gone shadow and just his eyes and the feel of his skin on hers in the dark.

Somewhere in her mind a retreat sounded. In the next moment, she’d snatched up her phone again and headed for the door.

On the way, she punched up the messages she’d been trying so hard to ignore.

Jade, It’s Luc- I tried to get you right after the first call-wanted to talk about…” Skip.

JJ, Lucas again- I know you’re busy but things are crazy here. I didn’t mean to blow out so soon. I didn’t think..” Skip.

Two more messages, one from Kristen letting her know that the snow hit early and she wouldn’t be in till late tomorrow, and then one from Stein Labs confirming the testing dates.

And then one more from Lucas that stopped her in her tracks, her straight black hair swinging forward.

Jade- so much happening right now. So much different than I thought it was. I’ll be done here in an hour. I’m coming to your place.”

She checked the time on that message. 3:30. She checked the time on the phone. 4:15. One more moment of standing still as her mind caught up to the heart that was in her throat. Moving again, she hit the doors of the building and walked, almost ran, straight into the needle sharp rain.

In no time flat, she was on the freeway dodging cars and downpours, navigating the storm in her head.
