The bed was warm and lush, and Diana felt lulled to sleep. When she awoke, Clay was already out of bed. She could smell the scent of coffee brewing.
Finally opening her eyes, she could see the light streaming in through the window.
“Is it morning already?” she stretched and yawned.
She felt around for her clothes. Instead she found her robe so she wrapped that around her body.
Clay was on his way to the room with two steaming hot mugs of coffee.
“It is indeed morning. Very early, but it is morning.”
Diana accepted the mug and took a sip. The caffeine was heavenly. It filled her, surging through her veins to awaken her.
“We have to leave today. How was your visit?” Clay asked.
“Just divine. This was wonderful, Clay really. I more than enjoyed my visit here. And as a matter of fact, I enjoyed the entire weekend. The helicopter ride, all of it.”
He nodded, looking like a shy young boy. His green eyes sparkled. “I am glad to hear it. I know your life has changed drastically in the last few months and, well, it’s good to be able to relieve some stress and take your mind off of things. Everyone has to do that every once in a while.”
Diana just sipped her coffee. She did not want to ask about the obvious, but it was something she wanted to know.
“And all of the intimacy, was that part of it? The relaxation?”
Clay sat his mug down, concentrating on Diana. He moved a stray lock of unruly red hair from her face.
“I think the two of us will agree that part of the trip was a welcomed addition, if you will.” He smiled.
“I could agree with that.”
“But let me guess, you want to know where we stand?” He lifted her chin up so they were now eye to eye.
“Something like that,” she replied, not really wanting to admit the fact that she felt like she needed something more clear on what was happening between them. There was a part of her that did not feel like she completely had the right to ask. But she really did not want to walk around imagining things or making things out to be something they weren’t.
Clay’s fingertips ran along her jaw line. “Things will be just fine. I think we are two mature and consenting adults who have made a decision to get to this point. Where it goes from here is totally up to us as well.”

He lightly kissed her lips. Diana almost protested. She wanted to hear something definite like, ‘I’m falling in love with you’ or ‘I don’t think this will work out’. But instead he made a comment about being mature adults and making their own choices. That could mean anything. Things could go in any direction.
“Okay,” was all she managed to say as he gently kissed her lips. He did not pull back when she thought he would. Instead, he kissed her more passionately than before. A dizzying, feverish kiss. It was the first time she saw something like that in Clay. The other kisses had almost asked for permission. This time, he did not have to ask for permission, they had already explored one another.

“Two mature, consenting adults, letting this lead us where it may,” Diana whispered.
Clay smiled, kissing her on the forehead. “Finish your coffee. We have a plane to catch.”
