She slid on a shirt that fell on her body just below her butt. It was well after midnight and she figured Clay would be asleep as she went to the kitchen to get a hot cup of tea. The suite was quiet, a sound Diana was starting to enjoy more often. She did not even bother to turn on the larger light in the kitchen, just the small light over the sink.
She poured some water into a cup and heated it in the microwave. While the tea bag steeped, she searched for some sugar. She found it in the cabinet over the sink, and as an added treat, there was honey as well.
“Up for a late night treat?”
The sound of his voice made her jump.
“I was not expecting you to be awake.” When his eyes started traveling the length of her body, Diana suddenly remembered she was not completely dressed.
Clay did not seem to be making a complaint. A sly grin, she could see he was appreciative of the view. It was much too late to cover herself up anyway.
“Would you like to join me for a cup of tea?” she offered.
“Sure.”
He waited patiently as she prepared tea for him as well.
“Join me in the living room?” Clay asked.
“Why not.”
They took their mugs of hot tea to the couch and got comfortable. There were no other distractions as they sipped their tea in each other’s company. Diana folded her legs underneath her.
“So how have you been enjoying the weekend?”
“I have been having a great time. Thank you, really.”
“Good.”
Diana did not miss the fact that his eyes were continuously glossing over her. She just did not want to mistake the look in his eyes for desire if that was not what it was.
“Clay, all of this is such a great gesture. I have to say this is the first time I have been able to relax in a long time.”
He set his mug down on the table in front of them, then placed his hand on her exposed thigh. A tingle emanated from the space where his hand warmed her skin. She did not know whether to move her leg or not. She did not want to and obviously Clay was not going to move his hand.
In fact, his hand inched a little further up her thigh. He paused for a moment as if asking her permission to continue. Their eyes met and she did not tell him to stop. Clay moved closer to her, so close that she could feel his breath on her neck. Closing her eyes, she let the sensation of his close proximity take over her.
She was comfortable with him right there next to her, so close. So near that she could inhale the fresh, light scent of soap on his skin. His touch was light, gentle, and soothing. It left her wanting more.
A sigh escaped her mouth, just as his lips met hers. The kiss was soft, pleasant. It was enough to ignite the fire within, leaving Diana wanting more than soft and pleasant. She wanted something earth shattering, something that was a cataclysmic pairing that would leave her aching and exhausted.
She leaned in, letting Clay know he could have more. His hands on her shoulders, he pulled her in even closer to him, gazing in her eyes. Looking into his, having his hands holding her securely, she suddenly felt breathless. His lips touched hers again, this time, the kiss more intense. He pressed his body against hers, chest to chest they both felt the fire ignite. There was nowhere for her to run, no way for her to get free from his hold.
Something started to feel so right about what was happening. She did not want to stop. Diana wanted more, a feeling she was not sure she felt before Clay’s lips touched hers.
Seductively, Clay tugged at her bottom lip, allowing Diana to have a breath. She opened her eyes, licking her lips to savor his flavor when he released her. She was not ready for the release, but did not know how to ask him for more. The entire exchange blew her mind. It was all so unexpected. She had no idea Clay even saw her in that way.
But he did not say a word. Instead, staying silent and letting the moment speak for itself. Clay took both of their empty mugs back to the kitchen area and went off to bed.
Diana closed her eyes, still savoring his flavor on her lips. She was not sure what happened there between the two of them. The fact that he unleashed so much desire and then, just as quickly shut it down, confused her. She was not sure what she was supposed to do with that.
She was also unsure of how she felt for him. Were the romantic feelings she had for him based on the sense of security he could offer her or was she truly feeling something for him? All of the emotion hit Diana out of nowhere. Not to mention the fact that she had not been touched by a man in longer than she could remember. S*x was long overdue, but it was not the kind of thing she did with anyone randomly. And with all she had to deal with in her career, she had not taken the time to cultivate any intimate relationships.
She got up to go to bed. How was she thinking about Clay and relationship in the same sentence? As she climbed into the bed, Diana pulled the covers over her body, hoping she would be able to cool the fire Clay ignited. She wanted to be irritated with him for starting such a thing and then walking away from her. But there was something about the fact that he did not let things go too far too soon. Something about the fact that he gave her just enough, especially since she had not pushed herself to think too hard about having anything other than a working relationship with Clay.
Teresa would be happy to know she had not only stepped out of her cocoon and let a man caress her and kiss her passionately, but she would be happy to know the man who had done all of that was Clay.

When Diana awoke the next morning, she found a note propped up next to a red vase full of long stemmed pink roses. Her heart skipped a beat as she almost skipped ahead to read the note.
Diana,
Please enjoy your morning at the spa. I had some business come up and can’t join you. I will see you this evening.
And please wear something beautiful, as you always do.
-Clay
She suddenly felt like a young girl with a crush. To have him write her a note and leave flowers showed he was thinking of her. It was a sweet gesture. Inhaling the floral scent, she thought of all that transpired last night and wondered if the flowers were supposed to speak to that as well.

Diana did not want to make too much out of it. It was nothing more than a kiss. A smoldering, sexy kiss that was meant to blow her mind. It did exactly what he wanted it to do, if that was the case. She knew it was not an accident and Clay wanted to leave her thoughts lingering during the day of what could have been.
But Diana did not want to get too far into dreaming about what could have happened. It did not happen and that was alright with her. Things like this were better when they were taken slow.
The problem was that Diana was not sure there was actually something happening that would go anywhere. What if he was simply going with the flow of the moment? There was always the possibility he was just making her more comfortable with being with him. She could not get out of focus on the matter at hand. Clay Marshall was a billionaire who was single, therefore, he could have any woman he wanted, whenever he wanted.
He probably made all of the women he was with feel special like this. She reminded herself she did not need to put that much into the kiss, the private helicopter ride, or the weekend retreat at the resort. Clay was probably doing what he always did, wining and dining women and romancing them, making them fall in love with his lifestyle.
She read the note one last time. It made her smile. Sticking it back near the vase of roses, Diana was filled with optimism as she went back to her room to get dressed. There was no way she was going to be late for her massage and facial.
