Definitely ratchet.
Who did that anymore?
She disembarked slowly from the car and stood facing him, wondering if he warranted another thank you or not…
“You going to invite me in?” he asked.
“What?”
“Are. You. Going. To. Invite. Me. In?” he asked again very slowly like she was the one with mental problems.
“No. I. am. Not.” She replied equally slowly.
“Why not?”
Tina stared at him like he was extremely stupid, “I don’t know; lemme see – stranger danger for one, the fact that I don’t fu*king know you from Steve for another, you’re rude, I don’t like your hair-“
“What’s wrong with my hair?” he raised his hand and ran it through the locks in question; they were long, raven black, had a slight curl to them and made him look like John Travolta circa 1991. It was 2014 people; the long haired rocker look was out.
“Where do I begin?” she replied derisively.
“Aren’t you a bit old to be so bi*chy about hair?”
“Oh, that is just it!”Tina began to take her earrings off.
“How about we move this fight inside. I’m freezing.”
“Fine.”

Tina had already stepped into her house before she paused to wonder why she was letting Aiden tell her what to do.
“You need to go,” she said spinning around to face him. She was very shocked when he leaned in and put his lips on hers. Tina opened her mouth to speak, but the words were lost to her. Aiden’s hands slid from her chin to cup her face and Tina knew what was about to happen, what he was about to do, and a part of Tina screamed to stop him, but she ignored it as Aiden pressed his lips softly against hers.
The kiss was soft at first, gentle, but it didn’t take long before Aiden was pressing her into the wall, his hands sliding down Tina’s sides and grabbing her waist tightly. Aiden’s mouth melded with hers hungrily, and Tina was surprised to find herself kissing back with equal fervor.
Aiden nipped at her bottom lip before trailing her jaw, drawing a pleasure whimper from Tina’s lips that would have been embarrassing if she had been able to think rationally. Tina’s hands slid upwards, her fingers threading in the dark strands of his hair, pulling Aiden’s face back to her as he groaned in response.
“Tina!”
The sound of a loud and obviously frantic voice snapped them both from their passion-induced frenzy, with Aiden nearly throwing himself away from Tina, his breathing heavy to match her.
“I…I am sorry. That was—I had no right to…” His eyes were wide, his cheeks flushed, and he covered his face with his hand causing his words to come out muffled and almost unintelligible. Tina didn’t even want to think about the flutters in her stomach.
“It’s alright.” Tina ignored her own flushed face. “But I do believe my mother is calling for me.”
“Yeah it sounds like it,” Aiden said stepping away from her. In another moment, Mrs. Richardson was exploding through Tina’s front door, her coat still quite askew.
“Oh,” she said.
Tina’s eyebrow went up, “Hey there mom, where’s the fire?”
“You didn’t think I’d let some strange man take you home without checking if you were alright, did you?”
Tina’s eyes narrowed, “How’d you get here so fast?”
“Your aunt Rosemary drove me.”
Tina groaned. She loved her mother a lot, but when she got together with Aunt Rosemary they were as toxic as a band of Jewish mothers. Always trying to find her a man, or convince whatever random gentleman in the vicinity that she was excellent wife material. She’d tried many times to appeal to her father for reinforcement but he’d chickened out on her ages ago.
“Where is she?” Tina asked.
“Waiting in the car of course. It’s cold out,” her mother replied like it was the most logical thing in the world. Tasha Richardson turned to Aiden with a smile.
“And you must be the voice on the phone,” she said holding her hand out.
“Yes I am,” Aiden replied shaking it. “Happy New Year.”
Tasha beamed, “How so very polite you are. How old are you boy?”
“Mother!-“
“25-“
Tina and Aiden spoke at the same time. Her mother ignored her anyway and continued to address Aiden.
“And how do you feel about older women?”
Aiden shrugged, “I don’t discriminate.”
“Ooohhh!” Tasha exclaimed clapping delightedly.
“Bye,” Tina said with a sassy wave. “I need to get in the shower so would y’all get out of my house?”

It came to the point that Aiden gave in, just to get his sister, Aileen off his back. Because really, whatever she said, he was not a lonely loser who might as well accept his fate as a sad old cat lady…. gentleman, whatever.
The truth was he loved being on his own. He loved having a big house all to himself with no loud roommates smelling up the place. He loved the quiet in the mornings, nothing but him and the bitter aroma of heavenly coffee. He loved being able to walk around naked after his shower, if that’s how he was feeling, without anyone insisting he put on pants. He loved spending a whole weekend on the couch eating whatever he wanted with no one around to judge him for it. And he loved working at home, just him and his computer, increasing his fortune and gaming with his pals; the stakes much higher than your ordinary game.
Plus, with four states between them, he was far enough from his parents that they didn’t bother to visit more than twice a year. He loved them, sure he did, but they’re annoyingly interested in his non-existent love life while resenting his lack of enthusiasm in providing them with grandchildren. It struck him that he was much like Tina in that regard… for a moment, he felt a fleeting sympathy for her. If she wasn’t so rude and dismissive that was. He bet his parents would love her.
So yes, he was happy, very happy actually, to be on his own. But apparently it didn’t matter what he thought, not talking to anyone for days on end was, according to his sister, “not healthy” and sure to “turn him into a reclusive hermit”. Like that was actually a bad thing. Plus he talked to Dylan and them almost nightly.
