Chapter 7
She was still not sure why she agreed to go with Damon to his family in the country. It was a long drive and it was uncomfortable for her because they had to make several bathroom stops along the way especially since she hated using public rest rooms. She had to admit to herself that it wasn’t all bad; she enjoyed riding in his mustang convertible with the top down and the wind blowing in their face. Damon showed his skills as driver in remaining calm and not giving into road rage when other motorists on the road made moves that would make any driver crazy such as making turns without their indicator or talking on their cellphone while moving at a snail pace.
Damon moved at average speed, fast enough that they could reach his home in good time but also slow enough to allow her to take in the sights of his home town and favorite hangout spots. She never would have guessed that this city dweller and smooth talker beside her came from such rural and humble beginnings. They passed so many cattle farms, she had cravings for a full house cheeseburger and a tall glass of ice cold milk. They stop by a diner to have lunch and the food was so great she made them pack some to go. She loved how cozy the place was, it had breathtaking views of the countryside. The diner rested on a huge property perched on a gently sloping hillside.
He even showed her how to use a juke box as they sang along to some of the more popular tunes. When Damon hailed the regulars it was like his accent did a complete switch. Here he was amongst people that knew him from birth. He could be himself and not worry about creating any social faux pas, it was as if returning to his roots he became more easy going and looked even younger.
After dessert in which they shared a banana sundae Damon declared it was time for them to hit the road again if they wanted to reach his family home before dinner. The roads were practically deserted with the odd car here and there so Damon picked up speed. The long winding roads and occasional curve seemed very repetitive to Trina after a while.
She wasn’t even aware when she dozed off but Damon’s light tap and low pitched voice woke her out of her slumber.
“Wake up, sleepy head. We reached home in good time. I’ll let them know you are tired and in need of some rest before you meet the family.”
Trina just wanted to get back to her sleep it was the best dream she’d had in months. She half nodded and closed her eyes. Damon had no choice but to carry the sleeping beauty to his room and tuck her into bed. He doubt she was even aware of the curious eyes that trailed them as he walked pass his family to place her in his bed. His family was amused by his role as knight in shining armor. They had never seen Damon exert so much energy in the opposite sex. He was normally so reserved and callous when it came to women after what Simone did to him, that it was refreshing to see him caring for someone other than himself. The young lady in question was a petite beauty, they loved her already because she was carrying Damon’s child.
His mother couldn’t wait to fatten her up, ‘that girl could use some meat on her bones’ was her wise words should anyone ask her opinion. When Trina awoke she found six curious eyes fixed on her face. The oldest child was probably eight, aware that she was finally awake the youngest girl climbed into the bed with her. She was fascinated by Trina’s long hair and started playing with it. Seeing that she welcomed the youngest child’s ministrations the older kids moved closer to the bed.
“Hi I’m Trina.”
“I’m Bryan, that’s Kelly and Lucy. Uncle Damon is my uncle.”
“I figured as much.”
“Are you his girlfriend?”
Before she could answer the door swung open and a beautiful empress walked in. “What did I tell you guys about bothering Aunt Trina. I’m so sorry Trina did my kids wake you?”
“No not at all. They are simply adorable.”
“Don’t be deceived by their angelic faces, they can give a lot of trouble when they are ready.”
Trina laughed at her comical expression.
“My bad, I didn’t introduce myself I’m Michelle wife to Richard.”
“Oh I remember he told me Richard is the youngest brother. Is Matthew here as well?”

“He wanted to be but you know how life in the army is unpredictable. They had an uprising in the country he was in, so he had to go back in the line of duty to serve his country. You know how it is.”
“Sorry to hear that. I know Damon was looking forward to chilling with all his younger siblings and his parents.”
“Well that’s what thanksgiving is all about, family hanging together and being appreciative of our blessings. Welcome to the family Trina, you are one of us now God knows the Arlington men aren’t always easy to deal with, they can be so pig headed and stubborn at times. We women have to stick together.”
The smell of food wafted into the room, dinner was ready. Michelle herded up the children to have their shower before they could eat dinner. Trina felt like doing the same. She was amazed at the kids’ fascination with her, she was surprised how at ease she felt with them, not awkward at all. Michelle being so approachable and supportive from the get go was a terrific boon to her. Trina knew that if everyone was as nice as Michelle she would definitely enjoy her stay with Damon’s family.
After bathing Trina chose a long but loose flowing halter dress. The dress was vibrant with splashes of tropical color. The lovely colors and simplicity of it showed Trina’s blossoming petite figure to its best advantage. It made her look robust and healthy not like someone who had just escaped death’s door.
