“In terms of dealing with Damon’s fame and fortune you will have to accept that it comes with territory but let Damon ease you into it gradually and then eventually you would have developed your own coping mechanisms. By choosing low key events and places you’ll reduce the attempts of being bothered by the public. Trina I know you are a strong woman anything worth having is worth fighting for, don’t give up at the onset, keep in mind your major goal is longevity in your relationship and it’s a path both of you will have to take and learn to work together.”

“Thanks so much for the advice Doc, I’ll keep everything you have shared with me in mind.”

“Goodbye Trina, all the best on your date.”

Trina had tried to get as much information about Damon Arlington as she could via the internet. Other than his recent break up with the social diva and heiress Simone Nicholson. He was a hard man to pin down and there were very few articles about his personal life only his business acquisitions were numerous. The only thing she knew for certain about him was that he operated a world renowned Art Gallery and was well respected by that community. None of the articles stated a reason for his breakup and it was driving her to distraction she just had to know. She made up her mind to question him about it on their first date even if that was committing a social faux pas.

Here they were on their very second date and she was bringing up his ex. She felt tenacious but she had to know about the past of any man she dated. Thinking back five years ago Damon made the mistake of thinking he had all the time in the world. He was going to expand his business and as soon as things were stable he would settle down with his long time love get married and have babies. Five years turned into ten and though he was driven and successful the market hasn’t gotten any better. He finally got tired of the game and wanted to settle down but that promise had dissolved in the ruins of his relationship with Simone Nicholson. He should have been suspicious when during their tumultuous ten years Simone never uttered a word of complaint or nagged him about getting married like other women would have.

“What happened between the two of you?” Trina demanded, sounding exasperated. “I thought you liked her.”

“It was more than a fleeting like. But our relationship is officially over.”

“I’m sorry to hear that.”

“I’m not. I’m glad it’s over. Not just me but my family was quite taken with her as well.”

“I know. What I don’t get is the reason why such a lovely couple broke up. There are numerous pictures of you both in the tabloid but none have stated reasoning that sounds believable. They just post numerous allegations.

“Why does this interest you so much?”

“I don’t like surprises and I want to believe that it was nothing on your end that destroyed the relationship.”

“I see. Well it’s not public knowledge but Simone finally came clean to me and admitted to me that she had her tubes tied when she was young. She felt guilty about not telling me this earlier in the relationship. To say I was disappointed was an understatement but I was willing to work with Simone and look into adopting until she dropped another bombshell on me.”

“Which was?”

“She was cheating on me not with another man but with her bestie who I thought she shared an innocent friendship with since they were always together. She felt our love life had taken a dive and wanted to spice things up with a threesome. When I politely declined she didn’t take too kindly to my adamant refusal or the fact that I was terminating our relationship of several years. She quickly got over her shock and harsh words were exchanged between us we didn’t end things amicable. She’s now dating my rival to my consternation and has proven to be a thorn in my side giving my competition insider tips in a bid to hurt my business. Simone’s moves have no longer endeared her to me and any attachment or feelings I have felt for her have long since departed.”

“What was it about her that attracted you to her in the first place?”

“She formed a friendship with my mother and came highly recommended. She’s from an excellent family well respected in the business. Her parents got along well with mine and we were thrown together a lot at various barbeques and cookouts that our respective parents held.

“Seems at first glance Simone would have made you a very suitable wife.”

“No doubt but as we all know looks are deceiving. If I was looking for a wife, which I’m not. I would want one that loves children just as much as I do and isn’t into swapping lovers.”

For the first in a long time Trina’s champagne flute remained untouched as she listened to Damon speak. She was enraptured by the silky tone of his voice, nothing about this man irritated her the longer she was in his presence and she felt that just being here with him held some significance even if she didn’t believe in the notion of fate. He went on to tell her how he built his business up from scratch. She couldn’t help but respect and admire his determination. She envied him his nonchalance and aura of masculine power he exuded. No matter where he went this man could adapt and handle any situation that was thrown at him. She admired his fortitude heaven knows he was going to need it, she would be the first to admit that when it came to relationships she was as flaky as they come.

Here was finally an eligible bachelor, what most would describe as a decent and good man. All she could think about as they sat there was how to make a good exit and hightail out of this restaurant before this man saw the real side of her. Damon was a very busy man he avoided the general public as much as he could. He was fiercely over protective of his privacy. His main residence where he spent most of his days had a well-trained and dedicated staff that catered to his every whim and needs. His mansion had an elevator and because he loved his seclusion the top floor was where he slept and was off limit to guests whenever they were there to visit. The top floor was his chill spot, his sanctuary from the prying eyes of the outside world.
