Leon clenched his jaw. “I don’t understand why you’re so stubborn. Damn it, Nicole! I get it, you don’t feel the same way for me as I feel for you, but sometimes it seems as if you don’t like me at all. It’s like you despise even being around me. Every little thing I say or do annoys you to no end. If that’s the case, why don’t you just tell me to back off and leave you alone?”
Nicole inhaled deeply and mentally counted to ten. “You’re reaching that conclusion alone, because I never once said I don’t like you. I like your friendship and I do enjoy your company, I just don’t like it when you insist on doing and saying things I’ve already asked you not to say or do. It’s like you don’t even listen to me and keep repeating the same old things.”
“Why are you so against accepting a helping hand?”

“Leon, I don’t have to explain myself to you. It seems to me like you’re the one who gets annoyed at the things I say. I think it’s time for you to head back to Manhattan and take some time to cool down. Don’t show up unannounced again, please. Have a good night.”
Nicole stepped out of his car and slammed the door. Leon always managed to get under Nicole’s skin. She hadn’t lied when she told him she enjoyed his friendship, but sometimes he could be a pain in the neck. He was especially annoying when Nicole was exhausted and every little thing seemed to get on her nerves. Maybe she’d been too harsh on him for no reason, but right now she couldn’t care. Perhaps she’d call him and apologize later. Right now all she wanted was to have a long and well-deserved night’s sleep.
Brandi Harris, the princess of R&B, had personally invited Nicole to be her substitute dancer. No one would ruin her night, especially not Leon and his clingy ways.
Nicole changed into a comfortable Nirvana t-shirt and pajama shorts. She brushed her teeth and almost cried at the sight of her warm bed. She’d never felt happier looking at her double bed. Nicole didn’t have money to spend on good furniture but she’d made sure to buy a comfortable bed. The least she deserved was to sleep well and be able to work hard afterward. Sighing, she pulled the comforter up to her chin and closed her eyes.
It wasn’t long before her breathing evened and Nicole was fast asleep, mind filled with dreams of success and stability.
