Five Years Later
“Evan…” Nicole moaned into his ear as the blond man kissed the spot on her neck that drove her insane.

“So gentle,” Evan said sarcastically. “What happened?”
“Uh, didn’t you just hear the kids screaming?”
The blond man shrugged.
“We’re late, honey. We have to get the kids ready to school.”
“Damn,” Evan chuckled. “Now that things were getting interesting.”
“We’ll have plenty of time for that later. Remember it’s my day off?” Nicole smiled at him. She put on a marine blue silk robe and reached for the door. “No, I mean it, get up. They can’t be late to school.”
“Okay, boss, I’m going.”
Nicole rolled her eyes and headed for the kitchen. The noises seemed to be coming from there, and it sounded like the children weren’t alone in their screaming. The dancer rushed her steps and peaked around the corner to see what was going on. She was relieved to see that Desiree and Devon were playing around with their godmother, Brandi. She was surprised to see that the children were already in their school uniforms.
“Good morning, my loves,” Nicole greeted her children with a tight hug. “Hey, Brandi.”
“I don’t get a hug?” The singer fake-pouted. “Hi. I hope you don’t mind me breaking into your apartment this early in the morning.”
Nicole opened the fridge to grab a bottle of orange juice. “Well, would you stop doing it if I said that I do mind?” Brandi shook her head with a smug smile. The dancer rolled her eyes playfully. She didn’t really mind her best friend showing up unannounced. The singer even owned a spare key.
“Well, I missed my godchildren and decided to visit them,” Brandi explained. “Then I got here and everyone was still asleep, so I decided to give you guys a break and get the kids ready myself. I’ll drive them to school, if that’s okay with you.”
“Thanks, but you don’t have to, B,” Nicole smiled gratefully. “You probably have other stuff to do.”
“Actually, I only have one thing in my schedule for the day, and this thing is taking those beautiful little monsters to school.”
“Hey, don’t call my children monsters,” Evan playfully reprimanded Brandi as he entered the kitchen. He gave her a side hug before moving to greet his children with a bear hug and a kiss on the forehead. “Babe, if Brandi wants to take the kids to school, who are we to say no?”
The singer nodded. “I love taking them to school, you know that.”
“All right, if it’s not a bother, you can take them.” Nicole smiled. “But please don’t give them any sugar on the way to school. The other time you did that, and we received a complaint because they went crazy in class.”
Brandi laughed out loud. Nicole’s glare shot daggers at her. “Sorry, dude. That day was just so funny, I can’t help laughing every time you bring that up.”
“You think it’s funny? Wait until you have a kid of your own and I do the same!”
“Well, then I guess it’s a good thing I’m not planning on having a child anytime soon.” Brandi winked. “Anyway, let’s go kiddos? The Brandi-mobile is waiting for us outside!”
“Bye, guys,” Nicole said with a grin.

Brandi faced the couple and smirked, “Now you guys have all day to continue your baby-making.”
Nicole blushed. “W-we weren’t—”
“Yeah, right.” The singer scoffed. “I’ll pick them up from school and take them to the park with Leon. Bye.”
The twins jumped out of their seats and ran towards their godmother, each one holding tight to each of her hands. Nicole smiled at the sight. She’d been amazed since day one at how comfortable her children were around Brandi. They truly loved her like nephews and nieces love their aunts. She ignored the fact that Desiree and Devon left for school without so much as saying goodbye to her or to their father. That’s how excited they got whenever the singer stopped by and offered to take them anywhere, even to school—they usually hated getting up early and having to go to school, but when Brandi was home, they’d be eager to go to school. Nicole figured the twins most likely had inherited that trait from their father. Evan was a heavy sleeper and definitely not a morning person, whereas Nicole loved waking up at the crack of dawn and getting her day started in the early hours of the day. The dancer loved the refreshing morning air, hearing birds chirping, seeing the sun rise…She’d hoped that at least one of the twins would be like her in that department, but to her dismay both of them could stay in bed until 10am.
Their children had inherited her looks, however. Desiree and Devon both had hazel eyes, just like her, as well as her slightly crooked nose and curly Afro hair. From Evan, they inherited his skin tone. Actually, it was more like a mixture of her skin color and Evan’s. They were genuinely beautiful, and Nicole wasn’t biased only because she was their mother. A model agent, a friend of Brandi’s manager, had once asked Nicole if she was interested in taking her children to his agency so they could get scouted to be child models. The dancer was very proud that her children were invited to work as models, but she chose to preserve their privacy, at least while they were still so young. Nicole and Evan had decided that when the kids got older, if Desiree and Devon wanted to try modeling, they’d be more than okay with it. Just not now.
