She walked towards the built-in closet and tried to decide on an outfit for the day. She felt Evan’s eyes following her movements.
“Can we talk?” Evan asked. Nicole stopped and turned around to face him. She nodded silently and walked back to bed. “I just want to make sure we’re on the same page here.”
Sitting on the edge of the mattress, Nicole ran her hands through her messy hair.
“I don’t want to hide my feelings anymore. I know we’ve already said we love each other, but there’s so much more that I want to say to you.”
Nicole moved to sit beside him, grabbing Evan’s hand and holding it tight against her own.
“I spent months hiding how I really felt about you, hiding my love, and then we slept together but I still kept my feelings bottled up. Do you realize how long I’ve been keeping all of this inside? It was honestly becoming unbearable for me to remain silent about my love, and now that we’ve confessed our feelings, I just want to spend the rest of my life telling you every day that I love you more and more. I was deeply hurt when you accused me of lying about you being the father of our babies, I honestly didn’t even want to see you anymore. I was set on raising the children by myself and making them hate you as much as I pretended to hate you for those three months that followed our argument. And then you told me the truth, that you were actually scared of being lied to, of being hurt. I just…I wanted to forgive you right then, at the hospital, but I knew I also had to protect myself, protect my heart, the same way that you hurt me to protect yours. These last few weeks have been nothing short of perfect, it felt like I was living a dream, living in a romance book. Seeing you fight for me, for my heart, it only made my love for you grow stronger at each gesture, at each word you said to me. I love you so much, Evan, so, so much that it physically hurts sometimes. What we just did together, that was love. We made love to one another and I just want to do that every day, until the day I die or the day you say you don’t love me anymore. I want us to raise our children together, I want us to give them the family that neither of us had the opportunity to have. I want to support our children’s dreams the same way I wanted my parents to support mine. I want us to love each other and love them forever, until we’re a gray-haired and wrinkly couple, the same way you wish your parents had until they were brutally taken away from you…I just…I want everything with you, and no one else. So, is that the page you’re on?”
Evan responded by pulling Nicole into a deep kiss that anyone would have been to see was filled with the utmost love and devotion. It was all the dancer needed as a response from the blond man. This kiss was the sealing of their promise to love and support each other forever, building a healthy and happy family in the process. Finally, the couple believed that it was their time to be happy.
“I love you too,” Evan gave Nicole one final kiss. “I love you even if you’d prefer to go to work rather than spending the whole day and night in bed showing me just how much you love me.”
“That is so lame,” Nicole replied as she got out of bed. “Having s*x is not a proof of love, do not feed that narrative.”
“Sorry, Ms. Woke.” Evan lifted his hands in surrender. Nicole grabbed a pillow from the bed and tossed it at him.
“Jerk.” She laughed. “I’ll forgive you if you cook me breakfast while I shower.”
“What? I was hoping we’d get to have some fun in the shower, if you catch my drift.” Evan wiggled his eyebrows suggestively but to Nicole it seemed rather comical.
“No can do,” she said seriously. “We can’t spend the planet’s water like that. I’m Ms. Woke, after all,” she air-quoted the mock title Evan had given her. “Remember?”

“You are so mean!”
“Yeah, but you love me anyway!” Nicole shrugged before entering the bathroom.
It dawned on her how marvelous it felt being able to joke like that with the man she loved after spending so many months being pi*sed at him.
