“I’ll go,” Evan, Brandi, and Leon said simultaneously.

“Uh…” The doctor looked between the three people, not knowing exactly what to do.

“Brandi, please, let me go. I need to talk to her. I need to apologize,” Evan pleaded. Brandi considered his words, but nodded anyway. She wanted to go in and make sure her best friend was fine, but the singer knew she had to give Evan the chance to finally make things right with Nicole.

“Well, I won’t step back,” Leon crossed his arms. “I want to see her immediately.”

“Hey, man, I’m the father. I’m the one who should go in.”

“You don’t even care about Nicole and her babies, why do you want to see her?”

“Because I love her!” Evan confessed. “I love Nicole and I want to make sure that she and our children are fine!”

“Mr. Murray, I’m sorry to inform you that he has the right to see Nicole first, as he is the biological father of her children,” the doctor said.

Leon widened her eyes, “Are you serious? I was the one who brought her here, this guy has abandoned his children. He shouldn’t be allowed to even come close to them.”

The doctor shrugged. “Those are the rules, I’m sorry. Sir, if you’ll follow me, please.”

Evan tried really hard to hide the smug smile that threatened to open on his face. He knew he was in no position to feel smug, but the dejected look in Leon’s eyes was too rewarding. The two of them had had serious issues with each other since the day they met. It was obvious to everyone that Leon was in love with Nicole, but Evan was, too. And he was pretty sure that she loved him back, in spite of what he’d done. The doctor stopped in front of a door and slowly pushed it open. Evan’s heart tightened at the sight of Nicole laying on a hospital bed. He hated that something bad had happened to her, he hated that he’d lost so many moments that he could have spent by her side…

“You can wait until she wakes up,” the doctor whispered. “Please, she’s in a fragile state at the moment, try not to do or say things that may alter her mood. Nicole can’t get stressed out right now, okay? Bear that in mind when you’re…fixing…things between you.”

Evan blushed as he realized that the doctor had put two and two together and understood what was going on between Nicole and him. He nodded silently before making himself comfortable on the seat next to the hospital bed. The doctor, whose name he forgot to ask, left the two of them alone. Evan stared at Nicole’s face, and grabbed her hand, lacing his fingers through her limp ones. Blue eyes filled with tears as he finally realized how much he missed her these past five months. It was only then that he realized how big his mistake had been. He prayed that Nicole would forgive him, he didn’t even expect her to give him a chance to love her; at this point, he was desperate even for just the chance of being there for his kids. Which reminded him to ask Nicole why everyone was saying children, instead of child. Could it be possible that she was expecting twins? Evan’s heart twitched at the thought. It awakened both positive and negative feelings within him.

Lost in his thoughts, the Campbell heir didn’t notice that Nicole had woken up and was staring wide-eyed at their interlocked hands.

“What are you doing here?”
