Rosie was dying of curiosity, Lo realized. She hurried over to share with her friend the latest details of her personal life. Suddenly the doors on Lo’s nonexistent social life were flung wide open since she had agreed to go out on a date. Phillip was to call her to give her the day, time and place and she was already excited about it. He was the first man in years to spike her interest and get her libido running which she thought these days was practically nonexistent. Despite Rosie’s flair for the dramatic, Lo would often seek the older woman’s advice and counsel because she was always so helpful. Despite the age difference it felt like they were kindred spirits as they bonded over their love for tennis. Lorraine found it hard to trust people and the fact that she felt at ease to share intimate details with Rosie spoke volumes about their friendship.

“Well?”

“I have a date with Phillip Jameson.”

“What the hell, Lo?” said Rosie. “You just met him tonight.”

“I know but he’s impressive, the total package, no woman alive would refuse such an offer unless they are only into women.”

“Aren’t you moving a little too fast?” she emphasized the word fast.

“I know okay, but I can’t help myself around him he’s gorgeous.”

“I should have stayed with you, if I had he wouldn’t have made a pass at you. Maybe you shouldn’t go out with him.”

“Why not?”

“You might be single but given your history with men, you would only end up ruining this as well.”

“That’s not a nice thing to say, I thought you would be happy for me.”

“I am. I just don’t want to see you hurt, men like Phillip Jameson choose more refined women as partners that they can impress their business associates with.”

“You have a point, I’m not about that life anymore and I’ve been trying so hard to stay out of the spotlight, besides it’s not a guarantee he’ll call me anyways, he may change his mind when he goes home.”

“That’s right, don’t get your hopes up that way you won’t be disappointed if he doesn’t call.”

“Yeah, that would be very depressing.”

“Don’t worry, I’m always here for you when you need a friend.”

“Thanks Rosie, you’re a trooper.”

Lo had hurriedly went on to explain to her that Phillip promised that he would personally look into the situation and put a stop to whoever was sending those dire threats. Jameson was no stooge and had numerous accolades to his name, her nemesis be damned with Phillip on her case they didn’t stand a chance of getting away with their crimes.

Lo looked as relieved as she felt, it felt good to no longer have to worry about the threats and she would give him the manila envelope with everything she had compiled on the case the next time they met. Rosie didn’t seem happy that she had garnered the attentions of such an eligible bachelor, even though she herself had made a play for him, it seemed only fitting that he had chosen Lorraine because she was younger and that infuriated her. Had it been anyone else Rosie would have had a fit and fallen into apoplexy but everyone knew she doted on Lorraine like her very own pet project.
