Lorraine struggled to stay awake on the return home but eventually her eyelids drooped close. She was exhausted from the entire day and fell into a peaceful sleep of lazy contentment all her problems forgotten. Even when Phillip turned on the radio, she didn’t stir from her sleep. His cell rang and he let Steve know that they were all right and heading home. He thought that spending his vacation with Lorraine and making love to her, he had hoped that some of his attraction to her would have faded in time but it was the opposite, the more he made love to her the more he craved all of her body.
He fought to keep his eyes on the road and not watch her sleeping, she was just too adorable for words. He felt very protective of her and if anything happened to her he knew he would lose it. Her safety was always in the uppermost corner of his mind. He felt like she was a part of him now since their joining and that scared the hell out of him. Phillip didn’t want her to ever have to worry about anything too seriously with him in her life. He knew in the long run he couldn’t shield her from the obstacles of life but that didn’t mean he couldn’t give it his all.
A few more hours passed and finally he could see the ski lodge just a little distance away. He parked the car under a tree, he wasn’t ready to give up his alone time with Lorraine just yet as the lodge would be crowded now that the guys had returned.
The burning need to have her again had just been too great. He let his eyes roam greedily over her body in her slumber. He wanted to feel her softness once more. To be a part of her in a way that had never enticed him before. He wanted to ensure that the bond was mutual and that no other man could come between them. He watched her sleeping and felt a little guilty for the way he was going to wake her up but the feeling didn’t last long as he was overcome with mindless lust.

Phillip felt conflicted he didn’t want to pressure her into a marriage, especially with the fact that she confided to him yesterday morning that she had lost a few more clients thanks to that bi*ch Rosie who told her to leave him. He didn’t even know the woman, why would she want to come between Lorraine and him. He concluded that it must be jealousy, women were such complex creatures. Men, for centuries, had been trying to figure out how their brain functioned and failed miserably. Phillip didn’t share his musings with Lorraine, she would no doubt think him an arrogant bas*ard. He couldn’t help but laugh to himself. The last he had seen of Rosie was the charity ball, she had somehow gotten a hold of his number at work and he had hissecretary screen all his calls and made sure she was placed on the block list.
He wasn’t remotely interested and her reputation as a heartless gold digger preceded her. He couldn’t see any man in their right mind wanting to be husband number three, she would just drain his bank account and be the death of his career.
True to his word the next few days he taught Lorraine basic self-defense tactics and the proper way to hold a gun. She claimed to have been joking about using a gun and wasn’t too keen on the idea of owning one but he taught her anyways because you never know what could happen. At the back of the lodge he set up a little area where he could teach her how to shoot. The mountainside found a perfect natural backdrop and barrier, where they didn’t have to worry about hurting passersby.
He set up about five different targets then taught her how to correctly load a pistol. After showing her a couple of times he made her do it herself. She took a long time to load the gun. She, like many others, had a natural fear of the weapon. Her fingers trembled as she loaded the bullets into the chamber. Her stomach clenched at the thought of shooting a real person and making them bleed. Phillip reminded her to always check to ensure that the safety was on. Even when guns were supposedly empty many people shot themselves thinking that the weapon was unloaded. To ease the tension he told her funny anecdotes of such circumstances that made her laugh.
When he saw that her hands were no longer shaking from nerves when she loaded the gun, he told her it was time to learn how to shoot at the target. Her first try she was completely off, it whistled pass the target and hit a tree. The second time he helped to steady her hand and she managed to hit the end of the target. With each shot fired, she grew progressively better getting close and closer to the bulls’ eye. Phillip just watched and said nothing. He was torn between the fact that Lo was willing to put herself in danger and admiration that she was brave enough to face down her fears alone.
