Destiny

“I… I am so happy,” said Jourdan. “I told you that I wanted to settle down, that I was looking for a way to do so. I am so tired of my lifestyle. I am tired of sleeping around, of partying all of the time. I want to settle down with a beautiful woman, and I want a child of my own. You are a beautiful woman that is carrying my child, you are the perfect solution! I can settle down with you, you can move into my estate and you will get everything that you could possibly want. I will make sure that you are completely happy and that there is nothing in the world you could possibly want for. We can get married and be together, of this is so utterly perfect I do not even know how I can describe how joyous I am right now!”

“Wait a second,” said Destiny, “don’t I get a say in the matter? When I said that I did not want anything from you I meant it. I do not want to be with you, I mean I like you I think you are amazing but I barely know you. We have had s*x once and we spent a single day together, how can I just expect to spend the rest of my life with someone that I have barely spent any time with at all?”

Jourdan looked at her and said, “I… I can see what you mean. So what would you like to do?”

“I do not know,” said Destiny, “I have no idea how these things work. I honestly do not think that I ever expected to be in a situation like this, I did not think that I would ever have to deal with a pregnancy because I have always been so careful. With you I… With you I just threw caution to the wind, I did not care about what could possibly happen. All I cared about was having you inside me, and this is the end result of that mistake. Everything has a consequence, and this is the consequence of my mistake with you. Do I think that it would be a good idea to marry someone that I feel so impulsive around? I honestly do not know. How can I possibly be with someone like this? How can I possibly just… oh I do not know… I feel like I need to think about this some more.”

“Well,” said Jourdan, “I understand what you mean and I respect where you are coming from. After all, we barely know each other, if you marry me you will not know what you are getting into. See, now I feel like there are two ways this can go. I am definitely going to be a part of this child’s life, and because I am rich I am going to want my child to be the same. That is just the way I am. Hence, you are going to have to take child support payments from me, because I do not want my child to want for anything. I would also want to see my child from time to time. I understand that you are the mother, but I would like my child to be close to me as well, so I would probably want you to move to Paris. If you are unwilling, I will move to New York. Yes, I am more than willing to do that for my child. The other option is that you try being with me. Just see what it is like, see what you stand to gain from being with me. I know that you have felt the same connection as me, I know that you are smart enough to realize this this is not something you see every day. What we have… that is something truly special. That is something that not everyone is able to experience, but we experience it fully. We have full control of our destinies right now, you can choose to be with me, someone that you feel comfortable and safe around, someone that you know understands you and will put a great deal of effort into making you feel loved and accepted at all times.”

“I understand what you are trying to say,” said Destiny, “but I really do need to think about it. I really do need some time, because even though we are very compatible and we know each other and I know that if I am with you, you are going to treat me very well, I need to know that I will be safe. You see, I have not had good experiences with my previous relationships. On the contrary, all of my previous relationships have ended in heart break. My last boyfriend cheated on me, and now I have severe trust issues. I do not know if I am ever going to be able to love again, and I do not want to hurt you. You see, it is not just me, it is you as well. You have your own life to think about too.”

“What do you mean?” asked Jourdan.

“You see, I have a lot of trust issue and commitment issues,” said Destiny. “My mother died when I was really young, and now whenever I get close to someone I start to fear that I might lose them at any second. You see? This is going to make me unhealthy for you in the long run. If I do not start to doubt you, I might end up feeling like I am going to lose you. I do not want to be toxic to you, I do not want to become someone that you resent and the thing is if I’m with you I am going to end up hurting you, I just know it.”

“I am willing to take that risk,” said Jourdan.

“Well I am not,” said Destiny. “I really think that we need to take a few steps back, take a deep breath and think about this for a moment.”

“Fine,” said Jourdan. “You need to think about it, I understand. What I also understand is that I need to prove myself to you, because whether you want to believe it or not the fact that we have only just met seems to have a severe impact on you. You are worried about whether we would be able to last. You worry that if we do not love each other truly, this would start showing later on in life. Now, I do believe that being afraid of relationships in such a way is a cowardly thing to do. I believe that when you love someone, you do not fear them, you embrace them. I am prepared to do that with you, and I understand that you are not prepared to do this with me. No matter at all, I am willing to prove myself to you, I do not care about anything else. You see, I know that I have it in me to be someone that you love, and I already know that you are the perfect woman for me. So… I have a proposition if you are willing to listen to it.”

“Okay,” said Destiny, “tell me what you have in mind.”

“I have an estate just outside of Paris,” said Jourdan. “You can stay there. Because you are pregnant and you need someone to take care of you while you are in this state. Now, you have nine months to decide if you want to be with me or not, because once the baby has been born you will have to make a decision one way or another. I am not going to force you to choose anything, but at least give me the chance to win you over. At least give me the chance to do what I can to make sure that you fall in love with me, because I do believe that love is there, you are just too scared to see it right now.

“So what you are saying is you want me to stay with you at your estate?” asked Destiny.

“Not with me per se,” said Jourdan. “I am not going to require you to sleep in my room or even the same section of the house. My estate is quite large. There are self contained apartments in it, you can have one of these apartments. You will have your own bedroom, a large one that has a great deal of space in it. Half of this room can have your bed and your wardrobe, and the other half will be a sort of sitting room where you can sit and watch TV or read a book or do whatever it is that you want. You will have your own bathroom and even a kitchenette. It will be like your very own studio apartment on my estate. You can live on your own, and I will only visit you.
