“Of course,” said Chantal, “this is not the kind of situation that anyone would want to be in. Destiny… if you had been getting an abortion then it would have been somewhat acceptable to not tell Jourdan. I mean, it would have been a little… I guess… it would have been a di*k move, but if the child was not coming into this world you probably would have just been doing what you wanted to your own body. But I think that you are going to have to focus on something else now. If you are keeping the child, Jourdan deserves to know. It is his right, Destiny. He is going to have a child, he deserves to know that this is going to happen.”
“I know,” said Destiny. “Oh God, I know. I just do not want him to think that I’m after his money or anything because I am really not. I do not care about any of that, all I care about is going out there and telling him what he needs to know. After that, I do not care. I am ready for him to never see me again, I am ready for him to break off all contact with me. I do not care if he does not want to be a father to this child, it is his decision. He would be being an asshole for not wanting to be a part of this child’s life, but he is free to be however he wants to be.”
“So tell him that,” said Chantal. “If you are not after his money, just say that to him. Why don’t you just call him?”
“Because I do not want to talk about something this significant over the phone,” said Destiny. “This just seems like the sort of thing that you need to tell someone in person, you know? I won’t be able to see his reaction while I am on the phone either, and I really want to know how he reacts to this. I want to know how he feels about this.”

“So you have to go to France,” said Chantal. “There is no other way to do it. I just hope that you realize how difficult this is going to be. Listen, just do this. Go up to him and be straight with him. Just go up to him and tell him that you are not looking for money, that the only reason you are here is to tell him that he is going to have a child. It is as simple as that. If he reacts badly, just tell him that you are not expecting anything from him. Just tell him the truth, you are not lying to him in any way. If he acts like an asshole, just get out of there. You did what you were supposed to do, you told him about his child, and now you no longer have any obligations towards the guy.”
Destiny took a deep breath and held it for a bit. She exhaled and then said, “I suppose you are right. This is just something that I am going to have to do. I guess I am not going to take the flight to London, I will just go on the Paris flight instead. I will go there and tell Jourdan what he needs to know.”
It all sounded so simple, and yet Destiny knew that it was not going to be easy. She knew that she was not going to be able to tell Jourdan with ease what he needed to know, and she had to admit that she was utterly terrified of what he was going to say to her.
She sighed again and closed her eyes. She wished that she could run away. She wished that she did not have to go to France and tell Jourdan what he needed to know. She was ready to be a mother, but she wasn’t ready for what would certainly be a rejection from Jourdan.
She had no idea what was in store for her future. She had no idea just how wrong she was about everything that was about to happen to her. Her life was never going to be the same again.
