“That… Was incredible,”

He sighed and rolled onto his back, eyes closed. “The chemistry isn’t usually that good,” he murmured, glancing at her for just a moment too long.

“What is that supposed to mean?” Aja asked, her arm slung over her eyes.

“Don’t worry about it. I’ll be right back,”

Before she could ask him to elaborate, he was gone. When he returned, he had her silk hair wrap in his hands. He had a gray robe wrapped around himself.

“I figured you might need this.”

The thoughtfulness blew her away. Hell, even the black guys she’d dated had not brought her bonnet. She took the cover and twirled her hair in a practiced motion. She tucked the waist-length locks into the bonnet and then collapsed back on the bed, thoroughly exhausted.

“I don’t think I can make it to the cottage,” she murmured, her eyes heavy.

“Then stay.

The next morning the sun was shining bright and Aja was wrapped up in the thick cotton quilt that Finn had pulled over her at some point in the night. She whined softly and rolled over, pulling it tighter around her as her hand flew out and patted the bed beside her. It was empty.

When her doe eyes fluttered open she could see why it was empty. Finn was wandering around the bedroom, tugging at the cuffs of his sleeve.

“Where are you going?” She murmured, voice full of sleep.

“I have a date.”

Her brows furrowed and she hated the way those words kicked her in the gut. She did not want him to go out on a date. They’d had such a wonderful evening. Could not they just keep having wonderful evenings? She knew the hot jealousy burning in her belly was ridiculous, so she found another reason to throw a wrench in his plan.

“It’s 10.00 am. How are you going on a date at 10.00 am?”

“My parents like to set them up early. That way all the bars and clubs are closed.”

Oh sh*t. That su*ked. He had to go to his family appointed date stone-cold sober? Aja sat up and rested her had in her open hand, eyes following his movements.

“You don’t sound like you want to go.”

“I don’t,” he said simply.

She pushed the covers down over her bare bre*sts, letting the sunlight glitter over them.

“Then come back to bed,” she purred.

He groaned and curled his fingers around his jacket. “Wow, that is tempting.”

“That’s the whole point.”
