He refused to let go of her hand. She knew he wanted to pace. But to do that, he would have to let go of her hand.
She had gotten used to some of his ways in the last month. It had taken him two more weeks since that day to convince her to move in with him.
Well, she had been about to agree when he had come to her apartment and all but kidnapped her. Since he’d been taking her exactly where she wanted to go anyway, she hadn’t objected.
“We’re keeping both of you healthy, no matter what,” he declared.
Hallie rolled her eyes.
“We are both perfectly healthy. Stop worrying, daddy,” she teased him.
She could see him puff up with pride as she called him that. You’d think he was doing all the work, she thought wryly.
Still, she thought as she looked at him, it wasn’t a bad deal. All those times she had daydreamed about being with Aldous, being a real family, and it was all coming true. She could hardly believe it.
Her life hadn’t gone as planned, but that was okay. Sometimes, things go wrong only to get better than you could ever have imagined.
“What is it?” he asked, raising her face to his and kissing her gently.
Hallie smiled.
“I love you.”
Aldous kissed her again.
“I love you, too. Both of you.”
