“Well, no, I have to go take care of this little excursion first,” he teased her. “When I come home, then I’ll do what I do best.”
“One-track mind alert,” Amelia chuckled.
Skylar gave her a kiss. “Well, take good care of Joe while I’m gone, sweetheart, and when I get back we’ll spend some time by ourselves.”
“Sounds like a plan,” she agreed.
Just then, Seth came out to join the group of men. He had a look of grim determination on his face as he stepped over to give Judy a kiss as well.
“Well then, Seth, lead the way,” said Skylar, giving Amelia a wink. And then, almost as if they’d never been there to begin with, the entire team vanished into the night.
A few hours later, Skylar stood with Seth near the dig site he’d insisted was the target. He had also sent agents to several other key locations, just in case. He was certain that one of the other sites, and not the one Seth believed to be the right one, would be the drop point.
It was no great surprise to hear the low hum of a small plane’s engine around the time Seth had told them, and then a large box fell to the ground just above another site rather than the one he’d named. Consternation riddling his face, Seth watched as several members of the Coyote Clan stepped into view. Skylar looked unconcerned.
“You knew this would happen?” Seth growled irritably. “When were you going to tell me about it?”
“I’ve been dealing with your father for a long time,” Skylar said. “Remember, he sent you to distract me. What better way to do that than to feed false information to you as well? Don’t worry, though, my men won’t let anything happen to us. As my father promised, we won’t let your father harm you either.”
“But what about the waste?” Seth hissed. “He’s going to get away with it again. We have no idea where that shipment was dropped.”
“Actually, there’s where you’re wrong,” Skylar smirked. “I have a team filming the activity at the drop site as we speak. That’s what the little red light on my watch means. Now, don’t you think we should probably get out of here?”
“Good idea,” Seth agreed as they glanced over at the group of coyotes headed straight for them. Leading the way out, Skylar led the men who had been standing with him back towards their boat, only to find Harper and his boys blocking the way.
“We meet again, Skylar Vernon,” Harper smirked. “Only this time, I’ve caught you dead to rights. What are you doing on my land? I could have you locked up for a long time for this.”
“You won’t do that,” Skylar smirked. “You won’t want to be next to me in the cell.”
“What are you talking about, Skylar?” he scoffed. “Why would I be next to you?”
“Because I just got confirmation,” he explained. “Your shipment drop and burial is now on film, and you have no way to prevent it from being viewed this time because the agent who filmed it is acting with a warrant.”
Anger flickered across Harper’s face as he stared, dumbfounded, at his smirking son. He took three steps in his direction, his face clearly showing his intentions to strike him down.
“Stop right there, Harper,” Skylar told him with a menacing frown. “You’re never going to beat this young man again.”
“Oh? And who is going to stop me?” he sneered. “You and what army?”
“Funny you should mention that,” Skylar said dryly. “I’ve actually brought along a few more friends this time. You know—just in case.”
Twenty black bears surrounded them, stepping into the clearing and growling as one. The sound was disconcerting and deafening. All of the coyotes began to whimper as they stared.
“Hold your ground!” Harper shouted, but his words fell upon deaf ears. All of his so-called protection ran off into the trees, even his two sons. “You traitors! I’ll have your hides for abandoning me!”

Harper morphed and began to run, and the bears followed after him in hot pursuit. Not much later, the unmistakable sounds of an injured animal calling out in pain floated on the breeze. Skylar looked smugly in Seth’s direction, and he smirked right back.
“Well, all in all, this has been a most satisfactory evening,” said Seth.
“Yes, it has,” Skylar agreed. “Now, what do you say we leave the fighting to the rest of the team and get back to our brides?”
“That’s the best idea I’ve heard all night,” Seth agreed. And that’s exactly what they did.
The end.
