“I know it is not something that you want to hear but the truth is that I have never found someone who excites me about life the way you do…I mean, all I want to do when I wake up in the morning is see you.” He gently ran his thumb over her knuckles. “All I can ever think of nowadays is just you, Amanda.”

She shook her head and sighed.

“I honestly don’t know what to say…I mean you are a young man in your prime and I…” her voice trailed off. “I am about to be a thirty eight year old single mother.”

“So what?”

“Rafael, I really don’t want to have to trap you in a situation you didn’t ask for.”

“You are not trapping me,” he said before he leaned forward and kissed her softly.

“But it is another man’s baby,” she said and he shrugged.

“So, what? Does he know about it?”

“No,” she said in a soft voice. “And I honestly don’t want him to know anything either.”

“You sure?” he asked and she nodded.

“I really don’t want him to be anywhere near or around my baby.”

“Then that’s perfect.”

“Why?” she asked as she looked at him.

“Because I can always assume the role of fatherhood.”

She looked at him and shook her head.

“I don’t think we should be talking about this right now…take some time and just get used to the fact first.”

“There is nothing to talk about. I know I want you. And we all have baggage. For me it is the sh*tty family and for you it is more beautiful than anything I could ever think of. It is a little baby who probably has your eyes and I know that he or she will probably make me melt.”

A smile played on her lips.

“What are you talking about?” she asked and he shrugged.

“I’m talking about a future together. For you, me.” He put his hand on her tummy. “And this baby.”

She raised an eyebrow over the other.

“You do realize you just asked to adopt my ex’s child, right?” she asked and he nodded.

“I know what I just asked and that is exactly what I mean to do.” He held her chin and kissed her again. “And I do not go back on my word. Ever.

“But you are only looking at the good…there is going to be a whole lot of sh*t to wade through and I mean a whole lot. I mean, hormones and the mood swings…”

“I can handle it.”

“And what if I hate you? Because people have been known to hate the ones dearest to them and everything.”

“I can handle it,” he repeated.

She took a long deep breath and was just about to say something when he kissed her again, taking her words into his mouth. She slowly brought a hand up to his head and held a fistful of his hair.
