As time went on, I didn’t feel like I was getting any better. In fact, I felt weaker. I thought this was supposed to wear off after a while, but I felt like I was dying. I couldn’t move, but I didn’t know what to do about it. I looked around, abut there was nothing that could help me.
I heard a set of footsteps again. Oh great, that bas*ard is back. I didn’t want to deal with him right now, especially after everything that happened. But it wasn’t the same man, it was another man. He looked familiar, but I didn’t know what to make of him.
He had short, black hair and red eyes. They weren’t filled with bloodlust like the other guy’s were. He looked sweet in a way. He had a decent body as well, it didn’t look menacing like the other guy’s. He looked at me with a shocked expression before turning off the light and turning on a flashlight. He walked over to my cell with a worried gaze.
‘Did he leave that on?” the man asked.
I nodded. The darkness felt better, and I didn’t feel like I was being burned alive anymore.
“That asshole. He knows better than that. Of course, he did that to me the first night as well. I swear Raphael is a pain. I hate that man,” he replied.
Whoa, so this guy doesn’t like the asshole who kidnapped me? Then why was he with him? And moreover, why did he feel so comfortable talking to me?
He looked at me and then looked at the food that I ate. He saw the cup of blood that was left untouched.
“You’re going to have to drink that. If you don’t, you’ll never get your strength back and he’s going to keep you here. It’s going to taste terrible for the first few days, but it will save you. I know, I’ve been there,” he replied.
Why was he trying to help me? Of course, he did help me with the whole light thing, so I guess he wasn’t as bad as the other guy. I slithered over to where the cup of blood was and drank it in a slow manner. Ugh, this tasted awful. I don’t get why people would even think this is palatable. When I made a disgusted face, I heard a chuckle out of the man. This caused a blush to form on my face.
“I’m sorry, it’s just funny to see it. I had a similar reaction when I drank it the first time. It tastes terrible, but the bagged blood they have is the cheapest thing they can give you. They won’t let you drink out of other people or animals. They don’t allow prisoners to do that,” he said.
I looked at him with confusion on my face. Who was this guy, and why did he want to help me?
“Who are you? I know that sounds rude, but why are you trying to help me?” I asked.
“I’m Donte. I’m one of the guards Raphael has. I’m one of the top men in his guard. I have served Raphael for about a hundred years. I was the one who saved you back there,” Donte explained.
Wait, this was the guy who told that bas*ard to knock it off? Why though? Why did he do that?
“Why? Why did you stop him?” I asked.
“Because I didn’t want to see an innocent woman like you, get killed by some guy like Raphael. You don’t know the true strength of that guy. After he killed you, he was going to probably cut you up and feed you to the dogs. He’s ruthless, and his ways are cruel. But I told him that we would have a use for you, and he seemed to buy it. Normally he doesn’t take in women, but I guess he noticed that you are beautiful and if he needed to, he could force you to bear his children,” Donte said.
“Wait, I’m going to have to have s*x with him?” I gasped. I didn’t want to have s*x with that monster. Especially since I was in a relationship with Ryan. We were going strong, and I thought that Ryan might want to become more intimate.
Donte shook his head. “That’s the reasoning that Raphael has. He doesn’t give a damn about the other person, he just wants people so that his army can become stronger. I saved you because I thought you would be an interesting person, not because I wanted him to subject you to that. Don’t think I’m a bas*ard like that. I’m not,” Donte explained.
Even though I was annoyed that Donte gave Raphael that idea, I know that he didn’t mean to do it in a malicious way. He was trying to help me, to save me from a cruel death.
“So what do you think of me? What do you think about all of this?” I asked.
The man sighed. He looked at me with a sorrowful expression.
“I’m sad because Raphael found a beautiful girl and only wants to use her for his own selfish goddamn needs. If I were him, I would save you and then help restore you. But that man is cold. Frankly, I think you’re a pretty woman and you definitely have potential when it comes to being a vampire. Just don’t get on Raphael’s bad side,” he explained.
Raphael had a bad side? I thought that was what I saw earlier?
“He’s got a bad side?” I asked.
“That’s right. He’s actually a pretty gnarly guy. I hate him, but I don’t have a choice. It’s either serve him or be killed. I’ve wanted to escape this for a while, but I don’t know if I can,” he replied.
It was a shame. Donte didn’t seem like a bad guy. Sure, I was nervous to trust him because of the fact that he was with the enemy, but he didn’t seem like one of those guys who would bend over and take it from their leader unless they didn’t have a choice.

“Well you seem nice. Unlike the other guy, I don’t mind you,” I admitted.
“Thanks. I like you as well. So what did you do for a living?” he asked.
I blushed. He was so sociable. I didn’t get it. “I was a legal secretary. I was on a date with my boyfriend before I got cornered. My boyfriend had to leave due to a work emergency, and then I got jumped,” I explained.
“I saw that. It was kind of sh*tty of him, but I didn’t know what to think. I thought it was prearranged to be honest,” he admitted.
“Nope. I’m a bit annoyed, but if I ever get out of here I’ll explain it to him,” I replied.
