Donte knocked on the door, and within a moment an old lady came out. She looked around and then back at us, her eyes wide.

“Are you here to be turned back?” she asked. She was almost whispering it to us, but I could hear her loud and clear.

“Yes. We’re both here. We were turned against our will, and now we would like to change back,” Donte explained.

I nodded in a hasty manner. I didn’t know what the woman thought about us.

“Show me your fangs. I want to make sure that you’re here for that,” she said.

I showed her my fangs along with Donte. She studied us for a moment, touching our teeth and looking in an interested manner. After a moment, she pulled away and looked at us.

“I see. Come on in, I’ll help you two out,” she said.

I breathed a sigh of relief. We might be able to turn back soon. I was so happy, and when I looked over at Donte I could tell that he was relieved. He was probably worried about being seen by someone or being mistaken for a spy or something. She let us in, ushering us to the living room.

“So you’re here to figure out how to turn back right?” she asked.

I nodded, and Donte responded. “Yes. Raphael turned us into vampires without our consent. He was going to kill my girlfriend had I not been there. He wanted to get rid of us, but instead planned to use us as servants for his own games. We want to turn back. I’ve been a vampire for over 100 years, and I’ve seen my fair share of problems,” he said.

“Ahh, so you’re one of the vampires that bas*ard turned. Ugh, I hate Raphael. He and I have been at odds for a very long time. I’ve been wanting to change the vampires back to allow them to live a free life, but Raphael had other ideas. He wanted to turn everyone so they could be pawns, and he’s done a fine job so far. I try to let people know about me, and about the other ones that can save the vampires who have been turned against their will, but so far only a few know about me and my secret,” she explained.

“Damn, I thought more would’ve come. I mean, I wanted to come here sooner,” I said. It shocked me that she doesn’t have vampires waiting out the doors for her.

“The thing is, my books have to stay hidden. I’ll put them in places, but I want to make sure that nobody else sees it. I also don’t want them to come after me, so I try to get the people who have been oppressed by Raphael. The sad thing is that so many people have been duped by that man that they think that his word is god. I hate it, but there isn’t anything I could do besides stay in the area that I’m in,” she explained.

“So what’s the cure for vampirism?” I asked. As much as I would love to stay and chat, I would prefer to just get out of here and go back to my old life.

The woman nodded. “Thank you for keeping me on track. I’ll go get it now. Roll up your sleeves, you’re both getting injections,” she said.

Margaret left, and we did so. She went to the kitchen, but just as she opened up the fridge I heard a sound. It was a pained voice, and immediately I knew that something was wrong.

Donte and I ran over, but it was too late. She was already dead. Someone shot her. Donte looked out the window, immediately seeing the gun.

“Duck!” Donte yelled. He pulled me under as the bullets started flying, each of them hitting the glass shelves. So many bottles broke as a result. I wanted to see if she had any more of the cure, but the sniper was aiming at the fridge.

“We have to get out of here!” Donte said. I complied, crawling on the ground as I heard the bullets flying every which way. It scared me, but I knew that Donte would keep me safe. He wasn’t going to let anything hurt me.

We ran out of there, taking cover under the trees. There were bullets flying every which way, but we managed to get past them. I felt one barely graze my shoulder, tearing my shirt. I ran faster; this was getting out of hand.

We ran over to the car, but as we got there we saw that it was in flames.

“Fu*k,” Donte said.

“You’re telling me,” I replied.

“We’re going to have to lay low for a bit, at least until they go away. Let’s go to the cabin,” Donte said.

We ran in there and hid in the closet. There were people around, but after a bit of searching they left us alone. Donte and I sighed in relief.

“Well that was close,” I said.

“You’re telling me. How the fu*k did they find us?”

“Beats me,” I replied. I was shocked as well. I didn’t know what to think about all of this. What do we do now? Our only hope of finding a cure is now dead.

“So now what? Margaret is dead and I’m sure they’ll probably be shooting up the house for a while,” I said.

“There are other places; we just need to find them. I think it’s time to head somewhere else, even though it may be hard.

I got up and he followed suit. He grabbed my hand and looked me in the eyes. I felt like crying. I felt like my entire world was destroyed just now by that bas*ard.

“Don’t worry about what happened just now. I’m surprised it took this long for Raphael and his men to figure out where Margaret was. She’s a witch, but they probably fooled the barrier or they used magic bullets that she didn’t have a protection spell for. It was going to happen eventually, but I know that it’s a tragic affair,” Donte said.

“So what do we do now?” I asked.

“We’re going to find another place. Don’t think this is the end Alice, for I’m with you. I’ll protect you from whatever else comes. Because I love you,” he said.

I blushed as I heard those words. Donte did love me. I planted a kiss on his lips and smiled.

“Exactly. No matter what happens we’ll always have each other,” I replied.

We walked out of there once the coast was clear, heading in the direction of one of the towns. We’ll get a car there, and from there we’ll head onto the next location. Even though we had a minor setback, I knew things would work out. We’ll find another person, and they’ll help us.

I may be a woman turned, but at least I had the love of my life.

The end.
