Chapter 9

Naomi

She had woken up in her recent favorite place once again.

Marc was fast asleep behind her, an arm wrapped around her naked waist and pinning her against his chest. Their legs were tangled between the two of them as she basked in the feeling of protectiveness in his warmth, running her hand against his arm.

Naomi felt as if she could stay like this forever. This was a feeling she could grow addicted to as well, much like many sensations she’d come to find with Marc. They had only been together for a few months, but she had to say that she really liked him. May even be something like love, but she couldn’t confirm that.

It felt like it was much too soon to fall in love with the man. They understood each other, respected and loved the relationship they had, sure, but that was different from being in love with someone. They hadn’t even gotten to the point where she could say they really knew each other.

They still hadn’t gone to his place or met the rest of his family together; then again, he hadn’t met hers either.

No, it wasn’t love yet, but it would hurt like it if anything happened.

“Naomi. Your phone’s ringing. Says it’s your brother. Do you want me to send a message to call back later?”

Oh, sh*t. She forgot about their plans with Julian and Nate. They were supposed to have lunch today. Naomi clapped a hand over her eyes before holding out her hand for her phone.

He handed it to her and she took a deep breath to calm down before answering as Marc laid down next to her again.

“Hey, Jules, what’s up?”

“Hey, Mimi,” her brother greeted before she heard the enthusiastic cries of her nephew coming from the background. “Wait, hold on,” she heard him say. “You can talk after me, okay?”

“What’s going on?” she asked him with a laugh.

“Nate just has a thing for phone calls now. Caught him on the phone trying to call Mom the other day.” She heard Julian pull the phone away to tell Nate to hold on again before there was another sound of movement. “Anyway, we’ll meet you at the restaurant at twelve. You can bring this boyfriend I heard about as well.”

Wait, what? “Where did you hear this from? I didn’t tell anyone except for Olivia and you two don’t-“

“Anyway,” Julian cut in. “We’ll see you soon.” He hung up the call really fast after that, leaving Naomi to stare at her cellphone in confusion.

“What’s the matter?” Marc asked from next to her. To be honest, she wasn’t really sure herself. How did her brother find out about Marc? Also, why did he dodge the question as soon as she brought up Olivia?

“Um, do you have plans for lunch? My brother wants to meet you.”

Marc raised a brow before he reached for his own phone, checking his calendar. “I did, but I’ll call Lawrence and tell him to move it to later. This is important if I’m meeting your family.”

She just shrugged. Her brother was just being weird really.

“Well, it’s only nine. What do we do till then?” Marc asked her before the two of them smirked at each other. She was only working that night, so they had the entire morning to themselves.

“I have a few ideas.”
