Chapter 1
Taylor looked into Desiree’s eyes and then at the package in her hands. He knew her well enough to be able to tell the news she had wasn’t all that good. Taylor moved closer and looked into her eyes. He could have sworn he saw fear in them… or was it worry?
“What is it? What’s going on?” he asked. Desiree looked at the group gathered in the kitchen and sighed. She took his hand and led him into the hallway and then to her room. “What is it?” he asked again as they walked past the others. The group was so engrossed in what they were doing they hardly noticed the couple now walking by.
“I think it’s better if we talk in here,” Desiree said in a small voice. She sat at the edge of the bed and looked up at him.
“Okay, you’re officially freaking me out,” Taylor replied. He sat on the bed returning her gaze, placing one hand on her chin. “What is it? Whatever It’s, you can tell me.”
Desiree realized that the more she delayed, the worse her news would seem to be. She took a long deep breath and shrugged.
“Just let it out,” she thought.
“Dee?” Taylor asked again.
“Today at work, Leon came to see me. Actually I was leaving work,” she said in a small voice.
“Leon…that’s the ex?” Taylor asked. Desiree nodded.
“Yeah, the married ex,” she said rolling her eyes, even though she didn’t really mean to. “He brought me this,” she said gesturing at the package in her hands.
“What is it?”
“A painting. Apparently a very expensive painting,” she said. Taylor raised an eyebrow and looked at her.
“Why would he do that?” he asked. She shrugged.
“Search me,” she said as she placed the package beside her on the bed and then looked at him. “I told him that I didn’t want it and I gave it back,” she said looking into his eyes. “He had it delivered here,” she added. Taylor took a long deep breath.
“You thought that was hard for me to swallow?” he asked. A smile played on Desiree’s lips.
“I didn’t want you to think that I was doing something fishy behind your back,” she said. Taylor smiled and took her hand in his.
“I trust you,” he said as he looked into her eyes. She shrugged and shook her head.
“That’s not all,” she said in a low voice. Taylor looked at her and shook his head.
“What now?” he asked.
“Remember that other guy I met during the speed dating thing, when we first met? Mark?” she asked. Taylor nodded.
“Yeah, what about him?” he asked.
“He came to see me too.” Taylor raised an eyebrow.
“Wow, you were a real busybody today, weren’t you little lady?” he asked. Desiree smiled.
“Tell me about it,” she said. “So, he had a rather interesting proposal to make. Literally.”
Taylor looked at her and shook his head.
“I get scared when you use the words proposal and literally in the same sentence. It leaves me thinking that the douche might have proposed to you or something.” Desiree smiled and nodded.
“Actually he did.”
“What?” Taylor asked, surprised. He felt like someone had just shattered a billion shards of glass in his head. Did she just say that someone proposed to her? Someone who quite frankly made him feel a little insecure about himself for the simple reason that the other guy’s bank account had a whole lot more zeroes than his?
“Yeah,” she said in a low tone.
“Why would he do that? I mean, what were you guys even talking about when you got to that?”
“Trust me, Ericson, there was no conversation. He just dropped the bombshell on me.”
“Okay, what reason did he have to do an outrageous thing like that?” he asked. Desiree took a long deep breath.
“Apparently, his business is failing and he needs an infusion of cash, soon,” she started explaining.
“Why doesn’t he get one of those angel investors or something? Isn’t he in a position to get one of those for free?” Taylor asked. Desiree nodded.
“Yes, but it seems no one has enough faith in him to do something like that. His only hope is his trust, which he can’t touch until he gets married, a condition his parents put when they left him all their fortune.”
“Wow,” Taylor said, looking at her.
“I know, and he offered to pay me too. Can you believe the bas*ard?” Desiree shook her head. Taylor took a long deep breath and draped an arm around her shoulders.
“You know what makes us so perfect?” he asked. She turned and looked into his eyes, awaiting his response.
“What?” she asked. Taylor smiled.
“Well, for starters, that you are so clueless about what makes us so perfect. And secondly, that I love you to death and I know that you feel the same for me,” he said before kissing her forehead. “And I trust you more than anyone else in the world,” he added. Desiree smiled and leaned against his shoulder.
“I trust you too, and I’d hate for anything to get in the way of us. And our happiness.”
Taylor pulled away from her and slipped an arm around her waist. He smiled at Des and kissed her full lips softly.
“Nothing ever will,” he said as he pulled away from her. She smiled when she felt his hand slip down to her ass.
“Shouldn’t we be getting back to the other guys? I mean, Cynthia and Rochelle really slaved over that dinner…” she faded away as Taylor began kissing her neck. “… I helped,” she added in a brief moment of clarity.

Taylor surfaced from the her rich brown skin. “I’m sure they will save us some,” he said before going back to kiss the object of his affection.
Desiree draped an arm around her partner’s shoulders as he traced his lips and tongue down to her collar bone. She hated that she would have to explain herself to Cynthia later, but this, this was worth every single second.

“You get better and better every single time I’m with you,” he whispered as he rolled off her body. She smiled and turned to look at him.
“Well, thank you sir,” she said as he draped an arm around her, pulling her close.
“Listen to you, being all modest,” Taylor said, kissing her forehead. She looked at him and laughed.
