She twisted her hands and dropped her gaze. “I am sorry, Daddy.”
The name she reverted to was almost his undoing. She was his princess, and he knew he had spoiled her rotten. His wife was the enforcer in the family, and he admired her way of dealing with everyone.
“What are you sorry for?”
“For misbehaving. I told Mom it would never happen again.”
“Your curfew has been shortened. No more going over to Gina’s house to spend the night for the next three weeks.”
“I understand.” She told him quietly.
A frown touched his forehead. “You do?”
She looked at her mom, who gave her an encouraging smile. “Yes, I do.”
“Good. Anything else?”
“Just, I love you.”
Reginald felt his heart splintering into tiny pieces as he stared at her.
“I love you too.” He told her gruffly. “Now, may I get a proper kiss?”
Her white adorable smile came, exposing her cute dimples as she rushed forward and into his arms. Closing his eyes, he held his two girls and realized not for the first time how damned lucky he was.
Kissing her on the forehead, he released her. “Now go away and allow me to spend some time with your mother.”
“Goodnight.”
They both watched as she raced away.
“Well?” His wife asked him mildly as he turned to look at her.
“Why are you always right?”
“Because I am.”
“That’s not an answer.”
“Isn’t it?” She gave him a smug smile.
His expression became sober. “I wonder if I will ever love you any less at some point.”
“You had better not. It so happened that I lowered my lofty standards by marrying a white guy.”
“Is that so?”
“Hmm.” She tilted her head to stare at him. “And it was the best damn thing I ever did. And I would do it over and over and over and over again.”
“And this white guy is the best you ever had.”
“Considering that I had just one lousy relationship to compare you to is not saying much.”
“Your reactions when we make love and the way you scream out my name in the throes of ecstasy tell another story.” He told her smugly.
“It might be that I am faking it.”
“Why don’t we test that theory?” He was already pushing away her robe.
“The bedroom door is unlocked.”
“Madison has already been here.” He had taken off her robe and was pleasuring himself with the sight of her. She had borne his two children, and both labors had been long and trying, something that had almost destroyed his peace of mind. But she looked like she never gave birth.
“What are you doing?”
“Just counting my blessings and thinking new ways to send you over the edge.” He murmured as he cupped her breast. “I see I am already having the usual effect on you.”
She moved her bottom over his crotch and had him groaning. “I might say the same about you…”
